Sightseeing and gourmet food are both available!
The three of us have had our fill of Minakamara activities. It was almost time to leave for Tokyo, but we decided to make a quick stop at a sightseeing spot. We visited Doai Station on the JR Joetsu Line.

This Tsuchiai station is unusual in that the station building and the platform for the up line are above ground and the platform for the down line is underground.

After about 10 minutes of descending the huge tunnel-like stairs, we finally arrived at the platform.

The difference in elevation from the station building above ground to the underground platform is about 70 meters. It is called "the best mole station in Japan" because you have to descend 486 stairs to reach it.
The trip ends with soba noodles!

We had handmade soba noodles at Kakunoya, a famous soba restaurant in Minakami. The specialty, hegisoba, is firm and smooth. Soba tastes better when the water is clean," said Mr. Mihara. said Mr. Mihara. The maitake mushroom tempura, fried until crispy, was also excellent.
