Running for the largest canyon in Yakushima!
After arriving in Yakushima, I decided to go for a quick run first.

The three members of this issue are the same three members from the Minakami section of Vol. 1. From left, writer Issey Enomoto, HOUYHNHNM's deputy editor Hiroshi Yamamoto, and TV personality Yuki Mihara. For these three, who make it a habit to run on a regular basis, running while traveling is both a pleasure and a means of getting to know a place in depth.
The footwear is the "Ultra Glide" by . These trail running shoes feature thick soles with high cushioning.

Although these "Ultra Glide" shoes are designed for trails, the lugs on the outsole are not as deep as those of typical trail running shoes, and they are comfortable on all surfaces, including road.
Once the laces are securely fastened, it's time to start running!

The starting point is Nagata Inaka Beach in northern Yakushima. This beautiful white sand beach stretches for about 800 meters and is known as the best spawning ground for sea turtles in Japan.

In this running, we will start from this Nagata Inaka-hama beach and head west through sandy beaches and roads to Yokogawa Canyon (Yokogawa Canyon), one of the largest canyons on Yakushima. The distance is about 6 km round trip.

The weather is clear. The midsummer sun was beating down on us as we ran along the seaside road.
After entering the trail from the road and passing through a narrow path lined with ferns, you will arrive at your destination, Yokogawa Canyon!

Yokogawa Valley is dotted with huge granite rocks, and a beautiful river flows between them. The clarity of the water was outstanding, and all three of us were lost in admiration.
