Panoramic views of Kyushu's highest peaks and other mountains!
While enjoying the sights typical of Yakushima, we continue deeper into the forest and gain more elevation.

After a steep ascent from Tsuji Pass, where there is a fork in the trail, the view is spectacular. We arrive at our destination, Taikoiwa!

Taikoiwa, located 1,050 meters above sea level, is a huge granite monolith. The forests of Yakushima Island can be seen below, and on this fine day, the ridgelines of the mountains, including Miyanoura-dake, the highest peak on Yakushima, were clearly visible.

I never thought I would be able to see such a spectacular view after only two hours of climbing! I was continuously impressed by the depth of Yakushima's nature along the way," said Mihara.
Yakushima is famous for the Jomon Cedars, but the trail to the cedars takes about 10 hours round trip. The trail to Jomon cedars is a hard one that requires physical strength and climbing skills. On the other hand, the trail from Shiratani-unsui Gorge to Taikoiwa takes only 3 to 4 hours round trip. Yet, you can enjoy the unique sights of Yakushima, such as moss forests and giant Yakusugi cedar trees, and from the clear Taikoiwa Rock, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the majestic mountains. This course is recommended for a wide range of people, from able-bodied climbers to beginners.
