An insatiable challenge that transcends the boundaries of e-sports.

- "I wanted to work by thinking and acting on my own," as you said earlier, and in 2019 we are launching FENNEL as a company and as a team.
I have always been interested in business. I thought about making game distribution my business, but I wanted to expand my business a little more. I tweeted about it on Twitter, and the current chairman contacted me and we launched FENNEL together.
What do you mean by expanding a little more?
I wanted to be involved in running the company and improving the abilities of the people in it, and I wanted to achieve great things while interacting with a larger number of people. In the game industry, the number of team members is limited, and the only thing you can accomplish is winning. That is why at "FENNEL," I am taking on various challenges with team management, tournament management, and apparel branding as the three major axes.
-FNNL, which is being developed as an apparel brand, is an initiative that goes beyond the framework of games, isn't it?
Yes, I do. I myself love self-expression and want to be different from others. I want to do something that no other team can emulate.

-e-sports and fashion are gradually intersecting.
In the past two to three years, players have become more conscious of standing out in front of others and have become more fashion-conscious. FNNL has collaborated with a world-renowned fashion brand, and luxury brands have started training e-sports players, so e-sports and fashion are becoming closer.
-Are there many teams developing apparel?
Many teams are developing apparel as merchandise. FNNL" expresses a world view as a brand and is conscious of incorporating it into fashion.
-You also release remakes of vintage clothing. I get the impression that your designs don't push e-sports too much.
In order to express "e-sports x fashion," I felt that a design with a game motif would be too superficial. Rather, I wanted to create clothes inspired by the identity of FENNEL. Not too simple, not too eccentric. I am trying to create items that are easy to coordinate and accentuate the look.
I think this is a brand that people on both sides of e-sports and fashion are interested in.
In order to make e-sports as a whole cool, I hope that FNNL will be a source of inspiration for other teams to follow suit and focus on fashion. I hope that more teams will follow suit and get involved in art and music culture as well. I want FENNEL to be the coolest and sharpest team among them.
-The new "G-SHOCK" watch you wore this time expresses a virtual worldview and features a gradient skeleton design. I think it has something in common with the e-sports×fashion mentioned earlier, but how did you feel when you actually tried it on?
It doesn't have an overly strong presence, but it has a strong individuality. I especially like the square design and simple digital display of the DW-B5600G-1JF, which is typical of G-Shock. Also, red and black is my favorite color scheme. It is also the team color of FENNEL.
The GA-B001G-1AJF features a new integrated bezel and band structure for enhanced comfort on the wrist.
The fit was so good that I was not distracted by the watch while playing games while wearing it. If the watch is not comfortable on the wrist, I would have to adjust the position many times, or my wrist would be stressed when I move, but this was not the case at all.
-Bluetooth®️ allows the watch to be linked to a smartphone using a dedicated app, so you can sound and locate a paired smartphone at the touch of a button, set the watch's timer and alarm on the app, and control a variety of other multifunctional functions. The app can also be used to set the timer and alarm on the watch itself.
G-SHOCK" has evolved even further, hasn't it? The timer setting looks good for muscle training. I used to use a stopwatch to measure intervals precisely, but it would be nice to be able to do that with a G-Shock. Also, many e-sports players tend to follow a daily routine. They eat hours before a game, warm up hours before a game, and so on. I would recommend it to such people as well.

What do you think of G-SHOCK's adoption of a modern virtual world as a design concept for a company with a long history?
The line between the real and the virtual is becoming blurred, and I think the watch industry is being challenged in terms of design and functionality. In this context, I think that FENNEL is also taking in virtual values and exploring a newer way of making watches. I especially like things that have design in them, so when I know the background of a product, I become more attached to it.
-What kind of image do you have of the G-SHOCK brand?
G-SHOCK was the first watch brand I recognized. There are many middle and high school students who admire it, and adults wear them too, so it can be worn by people of any age. I see it as a pioneer of watches that can be worn in a wide range of situations, from sports and outdoor activities to fashion. The rugged design, whose toughness is apparent from the outside, is easy to incorporate into the kind of coordination I like.
-And finally, what is your outlook for the future?
It is still a long way off, but I would like to create a large community centered on games. I think that e-sports can be easily crossed with other genres. For example, art is already art in games, and music has a high affinity with art. I would like to challenge "e-sports x 0" in many ways.

The square form of the first model is inherited from the first model, and is colored in cyber colors with a futuristic feel. The gradated design on the skeleton resin is reminiscent of the virtual world.
