The problems of old clothes are being solved by modern technology.
What is the lineup like this month?
Yoshikawa:Since it is June, we have a full lineup of merchandise for the summer season. Overall, there are many items that look like vintage clothing, but we have sprinkled in technical items through the use of materials and details.
Zaihara:The smell of old clothes is crazy mmmm (laughs).
Yoshikawa:First of all, this season's theme is most obvious in this T-shirt. Normally, T-shirts are often made of cotton, but this one is made of 100% polyester. It has excellent stretchability and is water-repellent, so it repels water.
Zaihara:This is original, right? The quality is so high that you would think it was an item from some brand.
Yoshikawa:Thank you for your kind words (laughs).
Zaihara:That's my problem too. Even if I put them in a net and wash them carefully, they turn white.
Yoshikawa:To avoid such phenomenon, we changed the material from cotton. That is why it has always remained beautiful. In fact, the clothes I am wearing today are the same item.
Zaihara:Oh, this is it! It gives me a different impression when I wear something.
Yoshikawa:In fact, the hem can be squeezed to create this silhouette when it is browsed. Of course, you can wear it like a regular T-shirt without tightening it, or you can tighten it to give it a layered look.
Zaihara:Wow! That's a lot of thought. This kind of thing was not so common, was it?
Yoshikawa:That may be so. The technology for making fabrics has evolved over the years, so using these new fabrics is also a hidden obsession of ours.
Next, please introduce the tucked-in pants.
Yoshikawa:These pants have a wide, tapered silhouette, which I think is a shape that Mr. Saibara would like.
Zaihara:It's a jackpot. I have quite a few of these things (laughs).
Yoshikawa:These pants are usually made of denim or chino, but since it is June, they are made of lightweight dungarees. So, they are comfortable even in the summer.
Zaihara:I wear pants like these with a sinewy waistband.
Yoshikawa:This has a drawcord on the inside so you can make it sizzle (lol).
Zaihara:Wow, as expected! This is already my favorite specification.

Yoshikawa:And here is the knit polo that Mr. Saibara was wearing earlier. The material is cotton polyester knitted in a herringbone pattern. It is knitted a little sweetly so that it can be worn cool, and I thought it would be fun to layer it with an inner layer. I think this level of transparency allows men to wear it without resistance, and I think it expresses a mature innocence in a good sense of the word.
Zaihara:It's a very mature and mature-looking product. The size is also very good. If it were too tight, it would make me look like an old man, but the balance is well adjusted.
Yoshikawa:If it is too big, it will be unbalanced again, but we have adjusted it to a size that kids in their 20s can wear in a cool way.
ITEM 1

12 gauge mesh polo shirt ¥13,750
STYLING1

We asked Mr. Arihara to style this item. Why did you pick this up?
Zaihara:The reason is that it looks like it would be easy for a woman to wear. I wasn't sure if I should wear a tank top inside, but I layered it with a T-shirt and it looked good. It's a size that can be worn with a tank top or a T-shirt, just by throwing it on top.
Yoshikawa:You wore military pants on the bottom.
Zaihara:Polo shirts and military pants are my standard. It's like, "They go so well together, don't they?

Crazy Cargo Shorts¥13,750
Please tell us about the next item.
Yoshikawa:These are the military shorts you just mentioned. Actually, they have a crazy pattern with three different fabrics: herringbone, ripstop, and twill, and if you look closely, you can see the different tones.
Zaihara:You can't see it from a distance, but if you look closely, you can see that it is very elaborate. Luxurious construction!
Yoshikawa:That's right. And it also has a secure sizzling drawcord (lol).
Zaihara:Thank you for the happy specs, it's cute how you casually play with the three fabrics.
Yoshikawa:Just like Mr. Arihara's polo shirt coordinate, we also styled our polo shirts with these military shorts. The combination is outstanding.
Next, a baseball T-shirt?
Yoshikawa:That's right. It's what we call a baseball tee, but when you find items like this at thrift stores, many of them are quite tight. Surprisingly, there are no large sizes.
Zaihara:That's true! There are a lot of narrow ones, aren't there?
Yoshikawa:That's right. But this one is made very large. I'm also particular about the fabric. Secondhand items are usually skinny and terroiry.
Zaihara:There are a lot of them, like the ones that are so worn that you almost see through them.
Yoshikawa:However, this is made with an American yarn called "COTTON USA" and is made with a thicker material.
Zaihara:It's gushy. It's reassuring.
Yoshikawa:The design is simple, but by focusing on the sizing and fabric, the item has been perfected.
Zaihara:I like the terry feel of old T-shirts from the 80s and earlier, but I worry about them becoming transparent when I wear them. Therefore, I tend to choose high ounce T-shirts from the 90's onward, but I feel secure in this kind of stiff fabric.

Dusty Denim Pants¥15,400
Yoshikawa:I recommend these denims to go with this T-shirt. The silhouette is slim and straight, but a lot of work has gone into it.
Zaihara:I am curious!
Yoshikawa:The fabric is bleached once, then dyes are applied, then pigments are sprayed on, and finally the fabric is scraped with a grinder to give it a processed look.
Zaihara:It's really a crazy amount of work.
Yoshikawa:That's right. But what I'm aiming for is the kind of denim that you can find in the pants section of a thrift store.
Zaihara:There are denims like that, aren't there? I think I know what you mean.
Yoshikawa:There are people in the Shimokita area who coordinate this denim with the baseball tee I mentioned earlier, aren't there?
Zaihara:Indeed (laughs). Where did you buy those old clothes? I might ask.
Yoshikawa:However, we are not vintage clothes, we are BEAMS. Our strength is that we have sizes from S to XL. With used clothes, you can't help but have one-of-a-kind items.
I also feel the tight denim that Hedi Slimane used to express in the 2000s.
Yoshikawa:I imagined a bit of that too. The tightness of that era. At the time, all black was in vogue, but I dared to use that kind of color, while being conscious of the current vintage clothing boom.
Next, check shirts.
Yoshikawa:The material for this is very technical, it's polyester 100%. There are gaps in the fabric to make it cooler to wear.
Zaihara:It's true. If you look through it, you can see that side.
Yoshikawa:While making use of this, we are expressing the checkered pattern in print.
Zaihara:It doesn't seem to be flimsy even when sweating. It doesn't seem to wrinkle.
Yoshikawa:That's right. And it is easy to wash and care for.
Zaihara:I like old open-collared shirts and wear them often, but cotton makes them floppy.
Yoshikawa:With its dry touch, you don't have to worry about that. This shirt solves those problems with modern technology.
Next is a special order T-shirt from Lacoste.
Yoshikawa:As a sports brand, there are many functional items inline, but we dared to make a special order with a stiff and thick fabric of cotton 100%. The coloring is also green and navy, incorporating Black Watch coloring. Even with the borders, it still blends well.
Zaihara:It's a color combination that can't not match. Absolutely everyone will look good in this item, no matter who wears it.
ITEM2
STYLING2

We asked Mr. Arihara to coordinate his outfit with this T-shirt. Please tell us why you picked up this item and what are the key points of your outfit.
Zaihara:I like Lacoste. I like the old ones, but I was also interested in the current special-order items at BEAMS. When I looked at it, I thought it was really cute. I wanted to wear it! I was like, "I want to wear it!
Yoshikawa:The denim outfit was very nice, and the way it was coordinated with the denim was like Ms. Arihara's style in full bloom.
Zaihara:It's already a very unusual combination, isn't it? But when I wore it, I felt it looked very modern. Is it because of the size?
Yoshikawa:I think so. Tucking it in gives it volume, which I think gives it a modern look.
Zaihara:There were also red-colored items in different colors, which were also cute.

1-pleated shorts¥10,780
Yoshikawa:We are proposing to match this T-shirt with these pants. This is so-called TC material, which is often used for work pants. We made shorts using it.
Zaihara:This is also cute!
Yoshikawa:It would be tasteless to wear just a T-shirt and shorts.Hat (Luster Nylon Bucket Hat ¥5,280)I thought it would be nice to wear it with The material used is nylon, giving it a bit of a luxurious feel. It's American casual, but the hat gives it a bit of a mode feel.
Zaihara:Nice balance. It's wonderful. It's interesting how the use of materials gives a little nuance.
How did you feel when you saw all the items?
Zaihara:I have a lot of vintage clothes with similar designs in my closet, and I have the impression that they have been updated to be more modern. I have always had a problem with my items being too thin and see-through, or sticking together when sweaty, but I was impressed by how modern technology has improved these issues.
Yoshikawa:That is exactly what we were aiming for, so thank you for putting it into words! We also like vintage clothes, so we often get inspiration from them, but we value ideas such as "it would be cool if it were made of this kind of fabric" or "it would be cool if it were this size. I am very happy that you noticed that.
