. skating, biking and snowboarding clothes all the time.

Next, I visited a craft beer shop in Gopongi called Five Trees.
Egawa:This is a place I often go for a drink. There is a brewery attached to the building, and they make beer in the back.

I heard that they have three kinds of beer: "GOHONGI ALE (Pale Ale)", "Un (Session IPA)", and "UNITE (Double IPA)". What would you like to drink?
Egawa:UNITE" is pretty strong, and if you notice it, you'll be drunk to the point of stupor (laughs). (laughs) . So, I'll go with "GHONGI ALE".
Yoshikawa:And I was "UNITE" (laughs).

Three original beers are poured fresh from the tap. Pints are priced at ¥1,000 and halves at ¥700, while fruit wine cocktails (¥1,000) and natural Italian wines (¥700) are also available. Of course, soft drinks are also available for those who cannot drink.
Yoshikawa:Are you a beer drinker, Yoppy?
Egawa:No, I like all of them (laughs). (Laughs.) Among them, I can control beer. When I go out for fun, I usually drink beer, and at pubs, I drink what suits the atmosphere.
Yoshikawa:I am from Niigata, so I grew up on sake. It wasn't until I came to Tokyo that I realized how delicious shochu is. Of course, I also love beer!

So, the beer has arrived!
Egawa & Kikkawa:Cheers~!
Yoshikawa:This is so rich and delicious.
Egawa:Yes! That's why it's dangerous (laughs).

Yoshikawa:I was wondering earlier, where did you get those sunglasses?
Egawa:This is an Oakley item, isn't it . It's really cool, isn't it? One of my favorite cyclists was wearing it, and I bought one myself.
You have your antennae up in all kinds of places, don't you?
Egawa:I also check out Tour de France bicycles and clothing, as well as helmets, sunglasses, and snowboarding apparel. I also check out bicycle frames on auction sites.
And that's how you got into fashion?
Egawa:. No one else is wearing it and I don't have to wear it. I also look at Instagram and check out things that interest me. T-shirts from labels I like, goods from stores I visited on a whim and liked, items from the café where my friend's wife works, etc. (laughs). (Laughs.) I wear things that are familiar to me.
Yoshikawa:There is a running brand in LA called "District Vision," which is really cool right now. BEAMS also carries sunglasses, and many of them are sharp, just like the ones you are wearing.
Egawa:Mr. Kikkawa, do you run?
Yoshikawa:I have recently become interested and will try a full marathon next time.
Egawa:. Seriously, I can't do it.... . I'm a little interested in triathlons, though, since I also ride a bike.

I see that you both check out a lot of gear-related items.
Egawa:I'm going to look at the gear. I guess I like it , that kind of thing.
Running and camping have taken root as a lifestyle, and more and more people are wearing such gear as fashion in their daily lives. There is a huge increase in the number of such brands and items.
Egawa:Yes, of course. . but I've been doing it for a long time.
Yoshikawa:I see! Skaters, indeed, if you ask me.

Egawa:I've been wearing skate, bike, and snowboard clothes all my life. That's why they never change. This is a side note, but back in the late 80s and 90s, people didn't have much money, so they didn't have many clothes. When I went on vacation, I would wear the same T-shirt four times.
Yoshikawa:What do you mean?
Egawa:The first time, I put it on normally, then I turn it inside out , and that's twice. . Then they would put it on backwards and forwards, and turn it inside out again. Everyone had their T-shirts cut around the neck, so there were guys who wore the same T-shirt four times in that way (laughs).
Yoshikawa:That's amazing (laughs). On a similar note, there is a running brand in France called "Satisfy. Generally, they use functional fabrics made of synthetic fibers for their clothing, but they make T-shirts out of cotton. They make holes in the fabric, like insect bites, and use them as ventilation. It's very primitive, but I think that kind of punk way of thinking is really cool.
Egawa:Heh! That's interesting.

Yoshikawa:. Their use of color in their clothes is also very cool. They use a lot of nuanced colors, and the atmosphere is really good. When we make clothes, we also refer to these color tones.
Egawa:Color is very important. That is really important for our clothes as well. Like vintage motorcycles, I feel that the design is determined by the color. The use of color in the past was amazing. The colors used in the jingle of "Otoko wa Tsuraiyo" (Men Have It Hard) are also amazing.
Yoshikawa:You collaborated on "Ombre Niño.

Egawa:Yes, that's right. I was watching the movie and thought, "Wow, this color is amazing. I felt it coincided with the era of vintage motorcycles, and I linked it to that era in my mind. I went directly to the film's distributor and asked to collaborate with them, but they said, "This is the first time someone has responded to this color" (laughs).
Yoshikawa:The color is like the " Nike ACG " of the 90's. .
Egawa:I was really scared. The motorcycle used in the film is the same as the one I ride, and I felt a lot of sympathy for it (laughs).

Today you visited two stores with Mr. Egawa, how was it?
Yoshikawa:I was very nervous to be working with someone I admire so much... (laughs). (Laughs) . After talking with him, I realized that he is a person who is deeply into the backbone and essence of things, just as I had expected.
Egawa:I am very happy.
Yoshikawa:I also felt that even now you are digging deep into your own interests. I also admired the wonderful relationship you have with your son. I admire that as well.
Lastly, what are your expectations for the future of BEAMS?
Egawa:. I hope it will remain a cool store for a long time. I think it would be interesting to see what would be created if the old-timers and the younger staff members could get into all kinds of trouble while planning this project (laughs). (laughs) As a fan, that is what I hope for!
Yoshikawa:Thank you (laughs). I will do my best!
