Who are the hottest designers right now? If you were to ask this question to people in the fashion industry, I am sure that many would name Hedo Maynar. While paying respect to tradition and authenticity, the clothes he creates are all contemporary. He pursues his own unique expression, moving freely between traditional and mode. The up-and-coming designer and the Spanish fashion brand "Desigual" have announced a collaboration. What kind of attention to detail is packed into the 11 items designed from a genderless point of view? And what is the story behind his design philosophy? We visited Mr. Desigual, who was visiting Japan for the first time.

He loves to design clothes.

You received the Karl Lagerfeld Award from LVMH in 2019. Did this change anything?

Hed Maynor:I received advice from many people and expanded my network of contacts. The number of people, including the media, who have given me a push has been very encouraging to me.

Has Hedemeiner had any influence on your creations?

Hed Maynor:It was a special experience, that's for sure, but it did not change who I am. I am convinced that what I have been doing and the creations I have been making have not been wrong, and I have reaffirmed that I will continue on my own path.

What do you want to do in the future?

Hed Maynor:I will just do it the same way I have always done it. My creativity may or may not change in the future. Rather, I would like to continue to feel the joy of making clothes.

Hed Maynor:I love designing clothes, and I love visiting and working in the studio, and I love the team I work with just as much. So to keep doing that is what makes me happy.
