Time is a factor in whether what you are working on will reach a certain level of success.
How long have you been designing eyeglasses?
Nakagawa: I have been in the eyeglass business for about 25 years, and I have been in the design business for 18 of those years.

You've been doing this for 18 years, but do you feel that you are still running out of ideas, or do you feel that you can design more?
Nakagawa: I can still make glasses. I want to keep making glasses. But I wonder how long I can continue to make glasses. Not only in the eyeglass industry, but there are many people who have been active for a long time. In the field of art, Gerhard Richter is one such example, as is Hayao Miyazaki of Ghibli. This may be misleading, but I want to make glasses as if it were a hobby. So I always wonder how old I can make glasses. I always wonder how long I can keep making glasses.

Nakamuro: How old do you think you can make it?
Nakagawa: Hopefully, I would like to continue until I die, but at the very least, I would like to keep making things until I am about 80 years old. At the very least, I would like to keep making things until I am 80 years old. 30 more years. I don't know if my body will be able to keep up (laughs). I think time will tell whether or not I can reach a certain level in what I am working on. Of course, this assumes that I am not going in the wrong direction. So unless you enjoy doing it like a hobby, you won't be able to spend that much time on it. In that sense, my hobby and my work match each other, and since a certain number of customers buy my glasses, I don't think I am going in the wrong direction. I think the depth of my work will only increase as I do more and more.
Nakamuro: When you think of it as work, you can't help but feel that you are wasting your time. . but if you do it for fun, you can make the time very fulfilling. But if you enjoy doing it, the time you spend doing it becomes very fulfilling, doesn't it? The difference between the two can be seen in the results. I think it is a talent that you feel that way about design.

Nakagawa: I wonder. I am the type of person who goes with the flow, and I just happen to enjoy what I do. When I go out to eat at a restaurant, I always order the same dish. If I were greedy, I might be able to find a better dish, but then there would be no end to what I could order. In the same way, I feel that this job may be a good fit for me. I have a personality that thinks that way (laughs).
Do you have any goals for the future?
Nakagawa: I am currently in charge of three brands, 10 Ivan, Ivan 7285, and E5, and I would like to delve deeper into each of them. Now I just have to see how long I can do that (laughs).
Nakamuro: In the meantime, please set a goal of 80 years old.
Nakagawa: I wonder if I can do it , I'll do my best (laughs).
