Korobure Techo - Keiji Kaneko's Fashion Memorandum - Oxford regular-collar shirt made with Yataro Matsuura.
Keiji Kaneko × Yataro Matsuura

The Fashion Memorandum of Keiji Kaneko
Oxford regular collar shirt made with Yataro Matsuura.

I would like to create something together. Keiji Kaneko hit it off with Yataro Matsuura, with whom he had an interview in "Kofukubure Techo. A year has passed since then, and a shirt has been completed. The finished product is an oxford regular-collar shirt. The item, which was created after a long discussion between the two, seems to be faithful to the original, but there is something different about it. They are universal, yet somehow charming. While looking at one such piece, let us ask the couple to tell us the story behind its birth.

"How's that? Good, right?" I want to make sure.

By the way, do the two of you have a project name?

Matsuura: We came up with a lot of ideas. I thought about naming it after a place, for example, since Kaneko-san and I are neighbors. However, I felt that if I gave it a name, I would be tied down by it and would not be free. So for now, I am thinking of not naming them. That is why I don't have a tag. Since we are in such a state of tension, we would like to ask you not to expect too much from us in the future. There may be some, but it depends on how we feel. . We didn't really want to sell the shirts this time, but to give them away to our friends and acquaintances.

Kaneko: We talked about that (laughs).

Matsuura: I didn't want to sell them (laughs). We made about 50 of each size and gave them out as year-end gifts (laughs).

Kaneko: Sometimes Yataro-san is like a schoolboy in his ideas (laughs).

Matsuura: At first you said we should not even put all the buttons on.

Kaneko: It was (laughs).

What do you mean?

Matsuura: I wanted people to sew on the buttons and sewing tools as accessories, and sew them on themselves. The message was, "At least you can sew on your own shirt buttons. It also meant that the buttons would be their own. But we felt that was too much, so we ended up including only a sewing kit. . We also included a small pouch made of the same fabric as the shirt.

Kaneko: It is a very Yataro's idea, isn't it? For the pouch, Gonmori-san found an old sewing item called "SERVICE BOTTUN BAG. I sampled it.

Matsuura: If this is on your shirt, you feel something. It has a sewing tool on it , but why? .

Kaneko: Maybe the idea will change again before the launch (laughs).

Have you decided how you're going to sell it yet?

Matsuura: We are talking about having an order-taking party in August. We will make a little announcement on each other's instagrams.

Kaneko: . The production of the fabric is limited, and it is likely that only about 100 pieces will be made in total.

. So you are talking about 20 pieces of each size?

Matsuura: Yes, that's right. . So it couldn't be that exaggerated. This time, we were really in the same mood, and we were able to understand each other through our senses without having to explain in detail. It ended up being a very good thing.

Kaneko: Yes, it is. It's a bit of a miracle, isn't it?

Matsuura: If there was a next time, doing the same thing would not necessarily yield the same results. . since we've done such a good job, I'd still want to give them away without selling them. Then I would say, "How is it? It's good, isn't it?" (laughs).
