What is your image of Descente?
Kataoka: I had an image of down jackets, but not of shoes.... I had a sporty impression of the brand itself, but when I looked at the lineup, I found many items that could be used as fashion items, which overturned my previous image.
What do you think of the VERTHER RS LE 24.1?
Kataoka: From a fashion point of view, I thought the unusual flap design would be a good accent. Also, the suede texture gives it a heavy-duty look, and I thought it would go well with stronger items.
What is the key to styling?
Kataoka: Since the upper is black suede, I put together items with a loose silhouette in the same way as moccasin shoes. The toe is sharp, so I thought they would also function as a tightening element to the overall look.
The sharpness is because the last is derived from leather shoes. On the other hand, the sole is derived from running shoes, making it easy to walk in.
Kataoka: They are actually insanely comfortable. My job takes me to a lot of different locations for shooting, and I want to use them in a variety of situations because they seem to work well on location in tough environments, such as in a little outdoor field, and they look chic on my feet.

Next, how do you feel about the VERTHER RA 23.1?
Kataoka: In person, the glossy white upper has a nice, classy texture. They look like they could be used for business casual wear. I heard that they are based on running shoes, so I wanted to coordinate them with sporty elements, so I wore track pants from Umbro. Since the shoes are waterproof, I decided to coordinate with a jacket from Babur, which is also rainproof, for rainy days. In terms of the overall tone, I tried to incorporate a sporty element while keeping it classy with items that have a British feel.
What kind of shoes do you usually wear?
Kataoka: About half the week I wear leather shoes. When I choose sneakers, I often pair them with rugged, outdoorsy-looking ones and clean slacks. From that perspective, the "VERTHER RA 23.1" can be worn in an interpretation similar to leather shoes.
