Two stylists realized that Saturdays New York City is just right.
FRESH FOR FALL.

Two stylists realized,
Saturdays New York City just right.

Saturdays New York City (Saturdays NYC), which opened in SoHo, New York in 2009, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. How does Saturdays New York City, which has matured over the past 15 years, look in the eyes of stylists? We invited Daisuke Araki and Haruki Uchiyama to show us two coordinated looks using their favorite items from the new fall collection. What we found out was the great receptiveness of "Saturdays New York City".

The wide frontage is easy for anyone to take in.

Born in 1994. After graduating from college, he worked for a major department store. in 2020, he studied under stylist Ryota Yamada, and in 2023, he will start his own business. He has worked on everything from musicians' costumes to brand lookbooks and styling for men's fashion media. Currently looking for an assistant.

-When did you become aware of Saturdays New York City?

Uchiyama: I don't remember it clearly, but I knew it when I was a teenager and had an image of it being beautiful or classic. I have the impression that it has nuances of surf and street, but with a clean silhouette and a sense of elegance.

-As you say, "Saturdays New York City" is an intersection of city, surf, and street.

Uchiyama: The lineup includes items that have elements of each, and they blend well with each other. My personal impression is that if the cultural color is too strong, a community has been established that doesn't allow others to come in. But "Saturdays New York City" has a deep sense of nostalgia that accepts people from all walks of life, despite its background in surf and street fashion.

-I think the store with a café also has a nostalgic atmosphere that accepts all kinds of people.

Uchiyama: Of course I have. The first time I went there was when I was a university student who had just moved to Tokyo. Rather, I went there for the cafe at first. The interior of the café was open and relaxing. I would have been nervous if I had never been in a restaurant before, but the café made it easy for me to enter.

-What are your impressions of the new fall collection?

Uchiyama: I have not checked all the items each season, but when I looked at the lineup again, I was surprised to see such items. There are jackets that I had no idea existed, and there are so many types. Some of them are easy to match with my favorite old clothes, and many of them are well-designed.

-He said it would be easy to match with Uchiyama's personal clothes.

Uchiyama: My current wardrobe includes a lot of vintage clothing, and there are many colors and patterns that blend in with it. Even if I buy a brand new item because it looks cool, I sometimes find it difficult to match it with the clothes I already own. But this lineup doesn't have that problem, and I think it fits in with my everyday coordination.

-What do you think is the reason for this familiarity?

Uchiyama: I think it is because it has elements of city, surf, and street. You can feel the various roots of the brand, and I think it has something for everyone. I also buy vintage clothing and like items with a cultural background. I think the appeal of this shop is its broad lineup, which accepts people with various roots.
