-What is the theme of the styling?
Sakurai: So-called Y2K-leaning? I tried to incorporate items with a modern feel. I especially like this fire-patterned knit, which has an impact and a Heisei-style look!
-The fire pattern knit is punchy and twangy. It looks great on you.
Sakurai: At first, I was looking for outerwear, but when I found this one, the material was thick enough to be worn alone, so I decided to make it my main item. I wanted to wear something colorful today, so I thought this loud look was also possible. When I tried it on, it was an instant decision. I like the bright color scheme, and above all, red is the group color of Morning Musume。 I also like the bright color scheme, and red is the group color of Morning Musume!
The matching cross patterned knit hat is another masculine motif.
Sakurai: If you ask me, that's true. Maybe I have always had a taste for that side of things. The same is true of the Indian jewelry I chose for the ring. I thought it would be nice to make an impact just by wearing one piece.
As well as the rings, I also felt the attention to detail in the choice of accessories, such as necklaces.
Sakurai: The star motif necklace that matches the nails can be adjusted in length, so we paid close attention to the balance when layered. These adjustable necklaces are all the rage these days, aren't they? I like the trendy look, and the extra part hanging down from the back is cute. Another key point is that the motif is vertically long, so it gives a loose look when worn with a top that has a tight neck.
How about pants?
Sakurai: The pants were a size too big, but I was able to squeeze them with a belt and they fit perfectly. I like them because they have lots of pockets and a Y2K feel.
You seem to have completely conquered men's clothing. On the other hand, were there any difficulties in choosing?
Sakurai: I guess it comes down to size. I can wear knitwear like today's even if it is a little big, but outerwear that is too big will make me feel like I am being worn, so I guess I need to be careful about choosing the right size.
What kind of outerwear would you dare to choose for this styling?
Sakurai: If you have outerwear that is roomy but not bulky, you can match it with a quick outfit, don't you think? Also, since this knit is long, it would be cute to wear a shorter outerwear to show the pattern on the hem of the knit. I really like to spend time thinking about styling in this way. Fashion is fun, after all!
