Great fishing even at times when it is not possible to fish!
It is difficult to catch fish when the sun is directly overhead. To break out of such a situation, we headed for a spot near Okishima, the only inhabited island in Lake Biwa.
Because of the good passage and fish reefs, this is a place where you can expect to catch big fish even at this time of the day. Mr. Hayashida casts to a point with deep water and fish reefs, using a straight worm over 30 cm long, hoping to catch a big fish. Murayama & Ishii and Saisu & Komatsu cast toward the rock island. The surface of the water was glowing silver as schools of small fish passed by the boat, giving the impression that they were going to catch fish. As expected, they caught them one after another.
The size is small, but it hits ...... consecutively. Mr. Hakusui said that sometimes we can catch a fish so big that the line breaks, so we enjoy fishing in numbers while hoping for that. It is a difficult time to fish, so it is fun just to be able to catch fish. Mr. Murayama and Mr. Saisu, who had been fishing with reels, took a break from fishing with cat rigs.
Once we are satisfied with catching a few fish, we move on for the big ones. From here, we change the point for each boat. Murayama and Ishii went to an area where trees and branches from the river had accumulated on the bottom. They both felt good about their fishing.
Murayama: I was using the "sakamata" and I got a bite, but it just wouldn't bite. Then I kept throwing cranks again and reeling them in.
Ishii: I was aiming for a good size "sakamata". And when I thought I got a bite, it was an incredible pull. It went under the boat and I lost it. It must have been at least 50 by the feel of it. I had tightened the drag too much. I wanted to loosen it, but I was almost ready to raise it, so I kept reeling it in with the same momentum, and it got away. I regret it.
Mr. Hayashida set up in an area with deep water and piles of stones.
Hayashida: Again, I used "Sakamata". But I didn't get any bites, and I lost my concentration and went to ....... I will recover from this.
Saisu & Komatsu went to the dredging area where they came in the morning. They have been catching fish here with "Sakamata Shad," crankbaits, and cat rigs, so they rotated them around. Komatsu got a hit after Mr. Hakusui gave him some tips on how to move the "Sakamata Shad".
Komatsu: Finally, at "Sakamata! I was able to catch the fish because Mr. Hakusui carefully taught me the direction of casting and the image of how to move the lure.
Mr. Saisu, who normally does not use a cat rig, seemed to have gotten the hang of it and his rod responded.
Saisu: I have the sense that I have improved my use of the cat rig during this fishing trip. I am glad I was able to catch fish during this time.
