Seabass fishing in the Sumida River is easy and enjoyable.
The Sumida River is known as a sacred place for sea bass fishing.
Takahashi: When I come to my wife's parents' house, I slip out for a bit to fish at the right time. A friend of mine has the Sumida River as his home, so I promised to ask him to show me around.
Yamamoto: I have come here on a motorcycle and gone for a run. Seabass fishing is an exciting activity you can do in the city. At first, I was surprised that such a fish could be caught in such a city.
Inner moat: I didn't know you could catch fish that big in the Sumida River. I didn't even know sea bass were called sea bass (laughs).
Takahashi: They go for sea bass attached to piers, so there are plenty of points to catch them.
Yamamoto: It's also easy to move around.
This is your first time fishing, how do you like it?
Inner moat: I thought fishing was all about sitting back and waiting, but there are so many points of interest, and it's fun to move around and look for places to fish. There are many kinds of lures and they come in cute colors. I'm a form-first type of person (laughs), so it will be fun to collect tools.
Takahashi-san, until last year you fished only mountain streams, but this year you started fishing for sea bass. You fish with lures, but the feeling is totally different, isn't it?
Takahashi: The rod, the lure, the casting motion, everything is bigger. The feeling is totally different. This Blue Blue lure moves very well even when I just reel it in. I can see why the Blue Blue is so popular. In mountain stream fishing, you only have to reel it in for about five seconds, but in sea bass fishing, you can reel it in for a long distance, so it's fun to reel it in.
Yamamoto-san, you are mainly a bass fisherman. Do you feel there is a difference between bass fishing and sea bass fishing?
Yamamoto: If you are going to fish the Sumida River, it would be nice if you can easily come by train, even if you don't have a car or a motorcycle. The foothold is stable and you can fish easily.
Inner moat: It's a boardwalk, not a rocky terrain, so it would be easy even for me to start.
Takahashi: It's really fishing like a walk in the park.
Inner moat: If you are a beginner like me, even if you lose concentration, there are many cafes nearby, so it is easy to take a break and stay there for a long time.
Takahashi: Unlike mountain streams, there is no fear of injury and no creatures attacking you. I can come casually, so I don't have to worry if I don't catch anything. I can fish in my normal clothes, so I can be fashionable.
