A project celebrating the 20th anniversary of the relocation and reopening of “Maison Margiela Tokyo” in Ebisu, Tokyo, has finally begun.
This initiative marks the second chapter of “Maison Margiela/folders.”Along with the online release of a document summarizing the store's history,The content was compiled into a zine.
Since the zine was free, it’s said that on November 5—the first day of distribution—a long line of people formed outside “Maison Margiela Tokyo” as they sought to get their hands on a copy of this rare publication.
Another highlight is the installation “Unravelled Memory, Rewoven Future,” which is on display at this store through Sunday, November 15.
On display is a collaborative work by artist Mio Suzuki and the historic French tapestry workshop “Les Manufactures Nationales – Sèvres & Mobilier National.”
These are 59 tapestries selected specifically for this exhibition, which Suzuki spent about three months carefully unraveling and reweaving one by one, transforming them into new works of art.
The oldest tapestry in the collection is a European piece created about 400 years ago. It features botanical motifs inspired by Japanese decorative art, and it is fascinating to see it here in Japan today, all these years later.
Starting with the entrance to “Maison Margiela Tokyo,” all of the artworks displayed throughout the store are large and well worth seeing. You can also watch a video capturing the creation process inside the store, so be sure to check it out.
The preview event held on the evening of November 4 was attended by many celebrities, including Glenn Martins, who currently heads *Maison Margiela*.
This is a great opportunity to take another look at *Maison Margiela*, a brand that occupies a unique position in the fashion world.
In addition,The data for this project is stored on the cloud storage service "Dropbox" and is available for download.
