The world's major cities have many names for the people who live there, such as "New Yorkers," "Londoners," "Parisians," and "Parisiennes," which express their distinctive temperaments and lifestyles, while at the same time functioning as brands that people aspire to be.
The newly launched project "poweredby.tokyo" redefines "Tokyojin" as all people who love Tokyo's urban culture and sublimate it into their own unique style, and aims to brand "Tokyojin" around the world. What is unique about this project is that "Tokyojin" does not refer to any nationality, but rather to all people who embody the Tokyo lifestyle, including non-Japanese. For example, AFRA, a human beat boxer and musician, Sadahiro Nakamura, who heads the "Transit General Office," as well as models and creative directors are among those who are included.
As a first step, they are planning various projects for the year 2020, including a website called "Powered by Tokyo," which will feature the places, things, and people chosen by Tokyoites, in other words, the lifestyles of Tokyoites, from the perspective of "Powered by Tokyo.poweredby.tokyoStarted "The

The site offers a variety of views of "Tokyo" as captured by a unique group of people, both foreign and Japanese. Each of the images is only a fragment of Tokyo, but when they are assembled together, they create a vivid and colorful image of the city. The solid site design and colorful photos and videos alone are sure to appeal the cool appeal of Tokyo to people in Japan and abroad.
In addition, we are cooperating with the Shibuya City Tourism Association, the Transit General Office led by the aforementioned Sadahiro Nakamura, a leader in cutting-edge Japanese food culture, and BEAMS, which just recently opened a store in Shinjuku with the keyword "BEAMS JAPAN" in Japanese. BEAMS Japan" shop opened in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
He also has an Instagram account, "@poweredby.tokyo." It also introduces the lifestyles of Tokyoites, and while only a little more than 100 posts have been made in the five months since its launch in January 2016, it has gained more than 7,000 followers, of whom 90% followers are overseas residents, which is also right on target. In addition, the hashtag "#Poweredbytokyo," which began to develop at the same time, has already attracted many foreigners who are spontaneously communicating about Tokyo.
This project is also an opportunity to think about how to promote the future of Tokyo, and by extension, Japan, both domestically and internationally. Of course, without getting into the nitty-gritty details, you can enjoy Tokyo as captured by a variety of people. The number of Tokyoites will continue to increase, so please check the site periodically.
