Every year, billions of new items of clothing enter the Japanese apparel market. It is said that about one-fourth of this amount is discarded without ever reaching the hands of others, and the state of the fashion industry as a whole has been questioned for some time. Following this, it came to light last year that some of the unsold clothing from around the world is being disposed of in the deserts of Chile in South America.
Against this backdrop, "Dsquared2" was launched to create more responsible clothing.
The capsule collection, ONE LIFE ONE PLANET, will be released this year, and is designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Designers Dean and Dan Kaitin explain, "We started with the creative process, looking at materials that would reduce the environmental impact of certain aspects, as well as new ways to process, treat, and finish our products.
Bomber jacket ¥172,700 , Denim ¥78,100
T-shirt ¥37,400 , Denim ¥78,100
Sweatshirt ¥74,800 , Denim ¥63,800 , Hoodie wrapped around waist ¥81,400
T-shirts and sweatshirts are made of organic cotton or a mix of organic and recycled cotton jersey , and oversized bomber jackets are made of recycled nylon.
The brand's essential denim is made from newly selected organic cotton, with stretch yarns spun from recycled materials and elastane, a degradable fiber.
ONE LIFE ONE PLANET" will go on sale on April 15. A pop-up store featuring this capsule collection is currently being held at Hankyu Men's Osaka until April 26.
This is the first collection in which Dsquared2 clearly expresses its concern for the environment. It will be interesting to see how it develops in the future.
