FREITAG STORE TOKYO SHIBUYA, the second Asian store of the Zurich, Switzerland-based bag maker Freitag, will reopen in a new look.
The new store was designed to resemble a tunnel that allows customers to move freely between Cat Street and Meiji Street.
The interior is an open space that has been stripped down to the bare essentials with an emphasis on functionality and durability, and in one corner is a glass-walled station that handles all bag repairs here in Japan.
Not only does this provide ample space for the needs of users, but it is also an elaborate way to make more people aware of " Freitag's unique products.
In addition, the renovation was carried out in collaboration with Trough Architects, which has participated in all of the store's projects in Japan to date. The sturdy panels on the floor of the store, reminiscent of a warehouse, are made of 80% recycled PVC material, which is 100% recyclable.
The use of materials that can be reused in the future also gives a glimpse of the brand's pursuit of environmentally friendly and sustainable manufacturing, which is very pleasing.
And if you look closely at the shelves employed in the display, you will see that they are all fitted with casters.
This proprietary modular system embodies the concept of "design for compatibility" and can be moved to accommodate in-store events and new needs.
Other details include chairs made from used truck covers and fluorescent lights used in Freitag's headquarters, so if you are ever in Shibuya, be sure to stop by and check out the shop.
Last but not least, a pop-up celebrating the store's renovation will be held from Friday, March 22 to Sunday, March 25.
The design studio and DIY design group "GELCHOP" has teamed up to exhibit and sell upcycled lighting and fixtures that were replaced during the renovation, so be sure to check this out as well.
