【FOCUS IT.] Winter trip to Switzerland led by Moncler Lunette. Reporting on 3 days of "great" enjoyment of nature with sunglasses!

"Would you like to go to Switzerland at the beginning of the year?" The call I received from a person in charge of the project was the beginning of my trip. I was there to cover an event to unveil the reborn Moncler products. Here is a summary of everything I experienced in a place overlooking the four Valais Mountains, from the Matterhorn to Mont Blanc.

A winter paradise for those in the know!

After a 20-hour flight from Tokyo via Dubai, the destination of this trip is Switzerland, a country in the center of Europe. When I told my acquaintance that I was going to Switzerland, he asked, "Are you going to cover watches?" But my destination was not Geneva, the city of watches, but Crans-Montana, a two-hour drive from Geneva along Lake Geneva. It is a mountain resort at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level, and in late January when I visited there, I could see the beautiful snow-capped mountains of the Alps.

Alpine mountains illuminated by the setting sun.

It was Moncler Lunettes that led us to such a place. Starting with down jackets, Moncler Lunettes is an eyewear line that is now expanding its brand by teaming up with a variety of designers.

For the relaunch of Moncler Lunette for the fall/winter 2024 season, we invited about 80 influencers, editors, dealers, and others from around the world to this special three-day event.

The setting is the Six Senses Crans-Montana, which was completed in 2023. This is one of the Six Senses hotels in Kyoto, Japan, where the slopes are right next to the building. Skiers and snowboarders skiing are part of the view from the guest rooms. Of course, there is a full range of rental clothing and equipment for activities, so even if you come empty-handed, you can be on the slopes in 0 minutes on foot at this wonderful facility.

The Six Senses is known for creating hotels that make the most of nature, and the hotel was chosen by Moncler Lunette as the venue for the event because it resonates with the Six Senses' attitude of valuing well-being and sustainability.

The new Moncler Lunette, and its lineup.

The day after arriving at the hotel, we headed to the Moncler Lunette showroom in the building. The space looked as if it had been dug out of a snow-covered mountain, and the fixtures and shelves displaying the eyewear looked as if they had been carved out of the snow.

The showroom looks like it was made of hardened snow.

The items on display here are from the Fall/Winter 2024 and Spring/Summer 2025 collections.

The theme of the Fall/Winter 2024 collection is "The Unknown World. The collection features big-shape frames that combine the old-fashioned outdoor retro feel typical of [MONCLER] with a featureistic design. There are a variety of variations, from sporty pilot-shape models that can be used for activities to those that are convenient for après-ski.

The theme of the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, on the other hand, is "Discovering New Freedom. Among the many genderless silhouettes available, the representative pieces are models with metal temples made of titanium. In fact, these are made in Japan, and when you actually wear them, you will find that they are not hard and feel comfortable on your skin. They not only look good, but are also comfortable to wear.

Incidentally, all Moncler Lunette eyewear is produced in Italy, except for those made in Japan. One of the characteristics of this brand is that it consciously chooses bio-acetate, a renewable and biodegradable material. In an age that demands manufacturing that is as environmentally conscious as possible, "Moncler" is proposing eyewear that looks to the future.

Put on your sunglasses, and off you go into the silvery white world!

The day after visiting the showroom, I put on my sunglasses and hit the slopes in the morning. But we were not skiing, but snow walking. We were divided into several teams and walked on a snow course. Actually, Crans-Montana is famous for its fine weather, with 300 days of sunshine a year (!). The weather here in Crans-Montana is so good that it is said to be sunny 300 days a year. The sun was shining throughout our stay, and we had to wear sunglasses when we went outside because the strong sunlight and the snow would hit our eyes. It was the perfect place to try out the Moncler Lunette eyewear.

Living in Tokyo, we rarely have the opportunity to play with snow, but when we walked on it like this, the soft, fluffy texture felt so good that before we knew it, we had forgotten about work and were walking like crazy. The view from the top of the mountain is also fantastic!

During the walk, I snapped a picture of the spectacular view!

The main pair I wore while snowwalking was a goggle-type pair. The large lenses cover the area around my eyes well, so I have a wide field of vision, and the sun doesn't come in from above or below. I also like the fact that they are lightweight and fit my face so well that they don't slip down.

After a long walk in the forest, we had lunch at a snow table set up on the slope! The bar counter made of hardened snow and the table stretching in a straight line were like a special stage surrounded by the Alpine mountains.

Time flew by as we enjoyed ourselves and the event reached its climax. The location of the closing party was also amazing. We rode the gondola from the side of the hotel to the top of the mountain, and after changing to a snowmobile, we finally arrived at a restaurant-like building. The three-day tour ended with dinner and drinks in a club-like setting while enjoying the DJ's music selections.

The building staged like a club is located at an altitude of 1,600 meters.

The trip to Switzerland allowed me to fully enjoy the world of Moncler Lunette. It is no exaggeration to say that the harsh natural environment of winter has given birth to the Moncler brand, but the eyewear line will take the opportunity of the restart to establish its own unique position. This is because the eyewear is fashionable and functional and can be worn both in the city and in nature without any discomfort, which is a unique appeal.
