Tuna, bonito and black bass in Wakayama. Huinamu Fishing Club's summer camp 2025.
Offshore to deep mountains in WAKAYAMA

Tuna, bonito and black bass in Wakayama. Huinamu Fishing Club's summer camp 2025.

It's too hot this summer. That said, we don't want to waste the summer. So the Huinamu Fishing Club planned a 3-day/2-night trip to Wakayama, the southernmost tip of Honshu. The destination was Wakayama, located at the southernmost tip of Honshu. The targets were tuna and bonito! We also decided to go deep into the mountains to fish for black bass to fully enjoy the magnificent nature. It was a romantic trip, full of trial and error, with fickle weather and dreams of big fish.

In a pleasant landscape.

Looking for the next point, I found a spot where the current was calm, so I regained my composure and started again.

Ishii, Murata and Komatsu chose straight worms. Regardless of the size, the plan was to catch one fish anyway. Ikemoto used high-specific gravity worms and cranks again this day, trying to make an ideal entry into the rod he had just acquired.

Ishii: The scenery is pleasant here too. In a place like this, I don't want to be yawning and swinging my rod, so I'm going to try to do it at my own pace. I just want to sit on a chair, have a cup of coffee, and relax.

The rain has completely stopped, the temperature is not too hot, and the sound of cicadas is comforting, but there is no response from the all-important bass.

Murayama: The bass are bouncing around trying to eat small fish, but they are not using their mouths. It looks like it could be caught, but the timing is not right.

Komatsu: There were two bass over 30 cm swimming near the shore, but no gestures of chasing the lure. It may be a tough time.

Murata-san and Ishii had switched from straight worms to vibrations because of the lack of response.

Ishii: No response with a straight worm, so I used a more appealing lure. I didn't get any bites, but it was kind of nice. It's been a while since I've thrown a vibration, so it's fun just winding it up.

Murata: I think I had a bite on the vibration, but I could be imagining it. There are a lot of small fish, so I think it's possible.

I tried changing lures to see if the bass would be in a good mood, but they just wouldn't take it. Then, time ran out without any luck. The bass fishing was over.

Murayama: It's difficult to find a place for the first time because there is so little information about the points and lures. The weather is so imperfect that I want to do one more day.

Ishii: For being here for the first time, I enjoyed visiting many different points. If the conditions were better, we could have caught more fish. The potential of Nanagawa Dam seems to be high. I would like to visit more places.

Murata: We all fished while covered in mud, but in the great outdoors it didn't feel like dirt. The approach to the point was tough, but the fishing was pleasant. It would have been better if the fishing was good, though.

Ikemoto: It was a great feeling just to be able to fish in the great outdoors with so few people. But I felt so small that I could not live up to the nature.

Komatsu: It was fun to think about this and that during my first two days of backwater fishing. But I failed miserably with my knowledge and skills that didn't lead to fishing results. I would like to come back again.

On the last day, we will be at the sea, which we have been waiting for. The weather is forecast to improve and the forecast is for clear skies, so we will be working on our tired bodies over the next two days to make sure they are in perfect condition.
