The uniquely shaped sole is unforgettable at first glance. The kangaroo leather upper rests on top of the sole. Once you put your feet into these unique "SPINGLE" shoes, you will fall in love with their light and comfortable feel. The two people who will talk to us about the appeal of these shoes are photographer Kenju Sato, known for his photo book "Kaikai Heritage" and the TV program "Crazy Journey," and model Minaya Asano, who runs the catering service and bento shop "Mina-ya. Let's start by talking about their work.

The toe design makes sense.

-How do you like the comfort and feel of the "SP-110"?

Sato: They feel light and airy, like slippers, and there is absolutely no discomfort on the feet when walking. It feels as if I am walking directly on my own feet, and the design with the slightly raised toes in particular makes a lot of sense. I realize every time I walk that my toes do not stick to the ground flat, but rather are in a natural shape.

-The sole of these shoes is thermo-compressed using the vulcanizing method.

Sato: I heard that Spingle uses a kiln that can crimp 200 pairs of shoes at a time, and I am interested to know what that kiln is like. I am interested to know what the kiln is like. I am sure it is an everyday thing for the factory workers, but from the outside it looks very special and strange--there are many things like that in the things I photograph.

-What about design?

Sato: I like that it is made of leather. I travel and walk on rough roads, so it is very important to have a balance of lightness and flexibility that is sturdy but not bulky. I also think it is important that it looks comfortable in town or at the airport.

I thought that Spingle's approach of creating shoes that are suited to the modern age while based on “back-to-basics” resonated with Sato's stance of "presenting something that has existed for a long time by checking it with your feet" that he pursues in his photographs. I thought that this stance resonated with Mr. Sato's photographic pursuit of "presenting something that has existed for a long time by testing it with your feet.

Sato: Photography is a very classic medium, but nowadays, people want short videos that are informative and impact-oriented. Even overseas, video photography is more common. In this trend, photography is a medium with a fairly low density of information. But that is why the appeal of photography is that it leaves room for the viewer to use his or her imagination. In this age of information overload, I believe that people are beginning to rediscover the advantages of photography alone.
