Tokyo Runners Portrait with lululemon

As a style, "running".

The running scene is about to take off into a new movement that will incorporate a wide variety of cultures because running is a simple and straightforward activity. What is now being questioned is how to run and how to enjoy it. In response, Huinum, with the cooperation of "lululemon," took portraits of runners based in Tokyo. While exploring their reasons for running, we will also explore the state of the running scene in recent years.

-What is the appeal of running?

I can run on my own, but it’s also fun to run with others. I think that’s the appeal—there are so many different aspects to it. Pushing myself to the limit is part of the fun, too. The sense of accomplishment after finishing a run feels great.

What would be a good match for a -run?

Radio, podcasts, and audiobooks. I find it easier to take in information through my ears while running than when I’m driving, for example. That’s why I listen to things that provide information rather than music.

-What is your personal best and target time?

At the Tokyo Marathon two years ago, I finished in 2 hours, 47 minutes, and 44 seconds. My goal is to beat my personal best by even a single second. I’ve been training hard toward that goal, and I’ll make sure I’m in top condition.

-What is your “Yet” (a goal you have yet to achieve)?

To set new personal bests in everything I do. My main focus is the full marathon, but this year I’ve decided to take on my first 100-mile race. There are still so many things I haven’t done yet, so I want to tackle each and every one of those “yets.”

-What is your impression of Lululemon?

I consider it a top-tier brand. The attention to detail in the design and functionality of their products is incredible. While many of their designs are simple, if you look closely, you can see that they’ve been crafted with great care.

-How do you feel about the comfort and design of the "YET Race Day Kit"?

The fabric really is incredibly smooth. I just noticed that the knit pattern on the T-shirt I’m wearing now varies depending on the section. Also, T-shirts with “TOKYO” printed on them are surprisingly hard to find, so I’m really happy to see them in the lineup this time—I’ve wanted one for ages.
