SUMMER SONIC 2026 with AI Glasses

A New Way to Experience Festivals with Ray-Ban Meta.

Music, excitement, and the scorching sun. “Summer Sonic” (hereinafter “Summer Sonic”) was held again this year in mid-August in Makuhari. While everyone has their own way of enjoying the festival, what if you could keep your smartphone in your pocket, record every moment, and access information seamlessly? Led by model Shiori Takei—a music lover and regular at Summer Sonic—along with fellow festival-goers Hiroki Takahashi and Tetsuya Yumoto, the trio experienced an unprecedented, liberating festival adventure using the latest “Ray-Ban Meta” smart glasses.

What Are Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses?

"Ray-Ban Meta" are AI glasses jointly developed by Ray-Ban and Meta. They went on sale in Japan this past May, with prices ranging from the 70,000-yen to 80,000-yen range (including tax), depending on the lens type. Equipped with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera that captures the wearer’s exact field of view, it supports not only still photos but also video recording at up to 3K Ultra HD. A single full charge lasts for 8 hours, allowing for a full day of powerful use. Another key feature is the portable charging case, a signature feature of Ray-Ban. It’s impressive that a mere 20-minute quick charge provides up to 4 hours of use.

Simply say “Hey Meta” to do everything hands-free—from taking photos and videos to playing music, making calls, and even getting directions or searching for recommended spots. It works in conjunction with the “Meta AI app.” It’s convenient because it responds to those little moments when you want to “know something” or “take a photo” without having to take out your smartphone. In addition to sunglasses, clear lenses, and polarized lenses, the collection includes “Transitions®” photochromic lenses—which darken when exposed to UV light outdoors and remain clear indoors—so you can wear them in any setting. For this review, we used all three models equipped with “Transitions®” lenses.

Get ready for the festival with Meta AI.

Festival mornings start early. What should I wear? Do I have everything I need? During those moments of preparation, filled with a mix of excitement and anxiety, the “Ray-Ban Meta” is a reliable companion.

Mr. Takei speaks to "Meta AI": "Hey Meta, tell me what to wear for Summer Sonic."

While “Meta AI” is useful for planning trips and answering everyday questions, it’s also a reliable tool for choosing outfits in demanding environments like music festivals. Ms. Takei consulted with “Meta AI” to put together a Summer Sonic outfit that balances functionality and style, perfect for the festival.

The festival begins the moment you set off.

There’s a saying that “the field trip isn’t over until you get home,” but for festival-goers, the real fun begins the moment they leave home. From the speakers in the car carrying Mr. Takahashi, Mr. Yumoto, and Mr. Takei, songs by the artists about to take the stage are playing—they’re making sure to get fully prepared.

This is where the “Ray-Ban Meta” hands-free photography feature comes into play. When you don’t want to miss the fun atmosphere inside the car, just say “Hey Meta” or press the button on the temple with a single touch. Whether you’re looking something up on your smartphone or in the middle of a conversation, the ease with which you can capture those smiles inside the car without interrupting anything is a thrill that smartphone photography has never offered before.

"Makuhari Messe," "ZOZO Marine Stadium," and the beachside area. The real thrill of Summer Sonic is racing back and forth across the vast festival grounds. After checking in, head first to the electric atmosphere of "Makuhari Messe."

The Strokes, Jenny, and BUMP OF CHICKEN were the three artists the trio had come to see. That said, their sets were scheduled for later in the day. So, to get a feel for the venue’s atmosphere and to discover new artists they hadn’t heard before, they wandered around the venue.

Contrary to the forecast of cloudy weather, the day was marked by erratic conditions—one moment the sun was beating down intensely, the next it was suddenly raining. However, Ms. Takei remained calm. “If I want to know whether rain clouds are coming, I can just ask ‘Meta AI.’ Not having to pull out my phone every time is a real lifesaver at outdoor festivals,” she says.

What’s more, the experience of snapping photos of the venue and my friends’ expressions while keeping both hands free was truly filled with the sense of freedom that comes with being “smartphone-free.”

Festival food photos taken from your own perspective.

When it comes to the fun between live performances, nothing beats the wide variety of festival food. Led by Ms. Takei, a regular at Summer Sonic, the group headed to the beachside area where food trucks were gathered. Amid a lineup of delicacies from all over Japan, the three of them each ordered their favorite dish.

Before saying “Itadakimasu,” I take a photo of the dish through my sunglasses. Videos and photos taken from my own perspective bring back memories of the smells and even the breeze from that moment when I look back at them later. The photos and videos import to my smartphone surprisingly smoothly, and I love how quickly I can view them right away.

Jenny leads the way to the Ray-Ban booth.

There was also a special booth inside the venue where visitors could try on the “Ray-Ban Meta” for themselves. Since the booth was located near the stage where Jenny—Ray-Ban’s global ambassador—was performing, it was bustling with enthusiastic fans and people interested in the latest gadgets.

At the booth, visitors could borrow a pair of “Ray-Ban Meta” glasses to experience firsthand what these AI glasses can do. From asking questions to “Meta AI” to taking photos at the photo booth, the lines of people enjoying the “Ray-Ban Meta” seemed to speak volumes about how this new device is set to transform the festival scene.

Finally, Mr. Takahashi spoke on behalf of the group and shared his thoughts on how the “Ray-Ban Meta” performed at this festival.

"I never imagined that being able to take photos and videos without having to pull out my phone would be so stress-free. What I found particularly convenient was that I rarely miss incoming calls. At music festivals, the three artists we want to see aren’t always the same, so we often split up for a while and then meet up again later. Even then, since call notifications come through these glasses, I really appreciate being able to notice them right away. It’s a small thing, but just not having to check my phone over and over again has significantly reduced my stress.”

“Eliminating the casual, everyday action of ”reaching for your smartphone.” Just that alone transforms the excitement of a music festival into something so much more liberating and stress-free. Mr. Takahashi’s candid remarks encapsulated the comfort of this new era brought about by the latest devices.

Capture memories on the spot while enjoying the moment with more freedom than anyone else. Be sure to experience for yourself the new festival style brought to you by “Ray-Ban Meta.”
