A Look at the Current State of Fashion from Seoul, South Korea.

〈DAIWA PIER39〉 made its debut in South Korea by hosting a pop-up event in Seoul. While its lineup draws attention every season in Japan, what kind of reaction will it receive in South Korea, a hub for trendsetters? So, we traveled there to experience the excitement of the pop-up firsthand. We also visited three shops that caught our eye to explore the current state of the South Korean fashion scene.

An intriguing item from Daiwa Pier 39 that I found at a pop-up shop in South Korea.

Inspired by the U.S. Air Force’s “Flying Shirt.” The distinctive four flap pockets are complemented by rod holders and mini pockets, adding fishing-inspired elements for a unique design. The fine-ribbed corduroy is elegant and soft, made from a fabric that’s lightweight yet durable. The subdued paisley pattern is easy to pair with other items while serving as a stylish accent to any outfit. Be sure to look for the fish hidden within the pattern—a playful touch unique to a brand with a fishing-themed background.

A classic sweatshirt that has been continuously updated with different fabrics across the SS and AW collections. This version features a heavyweight, brushed-back fabric made with spandex-polyester yarn to achieve a cotton-like feel, while the incorporation of MVS yarn helps minimize pilling caused by friction. The top features a relaxed, boxy silhouette, and by fastening the chin strap, you can wear it as a stand-up collar. The straight-leg pants have been updated from last year’s ribbed hem to a drawstring hem this year, making them even more versatile for casual wear.

This design is a reimagining of the classic open-collar shirt, with a bold check pattern that enhances its retro vibe. The iconic front pocket has been modified into a horizontal shape, featuring a functional design with different inner pockets on the left and right sides. The sleeves feature a military-inspired forward-set cut, and the addition of action pleats expands the range of motion in the arms, ensuring a stress-free fit even when worn under outerwear.

Made from eco-friendly synthetic leather derived from non-animal sources, the Nappa-Lan finish gives it a texture that closely resembles real leather. It’s lightweight and soft, and its key feature is the natural creases that develop over time, giving it a well-worn look. Based on a work jacket design, it features large pockets inspired by hunting jackets. The lining also includes pockets of various sizes, offering ample storage so you won’t need a separate bag. With its quilted insulation, you won’t have to worry about staying warm.

Our annual fleece set. This season, we’ve adopted a lightweight, highly insulating high-loft fleece made with recycled polyester yarn. Both the jacket and pants were inspired by the U.S. military’s ECWCS layering system. The grid structure, which offers excellent insulation and breathability, also adds a stylish design element. In addition to hand warmers, the set features zippered pockets on the chest and sleeves, resulting in a modern and functional design.
