The fabric has a jersey-like appearance because of its roots in tennis shoes.
It's unusual for you to create something with a sneaker as a starting point.
Kaneko:Indeed, I have not heard much about it.
South:But they say that fashion starts from the feet up.

Yamamoto:At first, we talked about how we wanted to make pants that would go with these shoes.
South:However, it would not be interesting to simply choose one of our lineup and tweak it a little. We discussed how to arrange them in consultation with each other. I also suggested that we do the setup anyway.
Why is that?
South:I simply love set-ups. And if we were going to go to the trouble of making one, I thought it would be better if we could coordinate it with the shoes as well. That way, it would look different in the store, and customers would recognize it differently.
I see. How did you decide on the selection of items?
South:I made a number of suggestions, but finally settled on this item. This set-up was originally made as a uniform for our store. As I mentioned earlier, when we first opened, we were offering "Stan Smiths," and I had an image that it would be nice to wear them together. That's why we started talking about it really quickly. We talked about it and said, "I like it, I like it," and it all went smoothly.

Kaneko:We could all see at that time that this style would be addictive (laughs). Stan Smiths" have their roots as tennis shoes. In other words, they were worn with sportswear. So I thought they would go well with jerseys and other items like that, and I felt a great affinity with the set-up proposal. It's not a modern jersey set-up, but I think the fabric has a bit of a jersey-like appearance. I feel like adidas used to have a jersey made of a wool-like material. This item has a nostalgic feel to it.
South:You know the Ben Davis work shirts? In my mind, it's like a cleaned up version of that shirt. Normally, there are no slash pockets on the sides, but I thought it would be nice if there were, so I added them.
Sport and work. What they both have in common is a uniform look. You have arranged them in an elegant way.
South:Normally, I would have used a bouncy cotton or something like that, but I thought it would suit the Stan Smiths to make the top and bottom both beautiful. The main character is here.
Did you decide on the fabric right away?

Made of high quality fabric of wool 100%. It is soft and pleasant to the touch and drapes beautifully when worn.
South:We looked at quite a few fabrics. At first, we were talking about whether it would be better not to use wool. As Mr. Kaneko mentioned earlier, we also discussed the possibility of using synthetic fibers with a wool surface, since it was originally a sports item. But I thought that would be too fake or fake-looking, so I decided against it.
Yamamoto:This fabric is really nice.
Kaneko:However, there are still many people who are not comfortable with wool. Most people say that cotton is the best. However, wool does not tingle even when worn on bare skin. Wool is actually a natural functional material, and I want people to wear it more and more.
South:Recently, synthetic fibers have been eliminated from the outdoor world, and wool is now the right choice. I personally feel that wool is the best.
