The newly revamped Big Mac and four select stores.
Reborn BIG MAC and 4 Select Shops

The newly revamped Big Mac and four select stores.

BIG MAC" was born in the 1920s as a store brand by an American department store. At that time, the brand produced quality products with excellent functionality and gained a lot of support from workers. Currently, based on the design archives accumulated over its long history, the brand is developing products with rearranged silhouettes and materials starting from the 2019 AW season. While many select stores and brands have begun handling special-order models and in-line collections, this time, the brand has been selected by "BEAMS," "FREAKS STORE," "CIAOPANIC," "HIGH! STANDARD". STANDARD. We asked the MDs and buyers who are most familiar with the products to tell us about the appeal of the newly reborn "Big Mac.

PROFILE

Tomohiro Ichinose
Creative Director, Ciao Panic

After working in a number of select stores, he became the creative director of Ciao Panic in 2018. He creates new trends based on his own extensive experience and data read from market trends. . He is in charge of the overall direction of this special order.

. First of all, how did you come to deal in "Big Macs"?

Last year, as the creative director of "Ciao Panic," I started rebranding the products, and at that time, I received a proposal from the men's buyer that he wanted to carry "Big Mac. I wanted to create a strong point for "Ciao Panic" as a store, and I was thinking that it was necessary to have a concept of American traditional and heavy duty, for example, so I said, "Well, let's try it.

Q: What did you think of the new "Big Mac" items?

While there are parts that have an old-fashioned "Big Mac" feel to them, I like that they have been rearranged for a modern fit and design, so they don't come off as drab or dowdy. Since it is originally a work brand, it is natural that there are some earthy parts, and I think there are many people who like that. However, we felt that if we were going to handle this brand, we needed to dilute that part of the brand.

A: So this special-order collection is a reflection of that.

That's right. Therefore, we have positioned the special-order collection as a "black label" collection, and have changed the name tags, pith names, buttons, and other accessory parts that are used as points of reference in the in-line collection to all black. This gives the collection a modern look.

The atmosphere changes suddenly. The setup is also "out of character" in a good way.

. For the jacket, we were conscious of the part of the jacket that looks like a suit as an extension of the coveralls, but can also be worn loosely. The pants make use of the original design. The fabric is made of Solotex®, a functional material. The fabric is made of Solotex®, a functional material, which differentiates it from coveralls, while at the same time giving it the feel of a suit. Similarly, the coats and overalls also incorporate a streetwise feel.

I was surprised at how much freedom you have to arrange things.

The brand is very flexible, and I can try various ideas, so it's very rewarding. CiaoPanic is building a lineup of both men's and women's wear based on the theme of "items that can be traced back to their origins," and the newly reborn "Big Mac" is a great match for this theme. The new "Big Mac" is a great match.

3 Big Mac products specially ordered by Ciao Panic.

Ciao Panic's original attempt to create a "black collection" that retains elements of good old-fashioned American work, but has been reconstructed with an emphasis on functionality and town use. In addition to the coats, set-ups, and overalls shown here, the collection also includes western shirts and other items.
