Clothing that encourages feelings.
PROFILE

With roots in black music, he has created his own music that transcends genres such as electronica, ambient, and alternative, and released his third album "SAVAGE" in September 2019. In the same year, he completed a nationwide tour including Zepp Tokyo, and his high fashion sense, including self-styling of costumes for music videos and live performances, is also a must-see.

What is your usual source of inspiration when it comes to making music?
Mukai:Basically, I decide on a concept for each album and produce it, so it depends on the occasion. However, for lyrics, they are often based on my own emotions. For example, "Savage," released in 2019, was based on negative emotions such as conflicts and complexes that I was feeling at the time. Recently, I sometimes write songs ahead of the tracks, and even in those cases, I use the emotions that come up when I listen to the track as the lyrics.

Mukai-san's activities are not limited to being a singer-songwriter, which I think is an indispensable element when talking about you. What are your thoughts behind such a multi-faceted career?
Mukai:When I started my career as a singer-songwriter, the R&B genre was not so major in the Japanese pop scene. So I wanted to do everything I could to reach as wide an audience as possible. I hoped that my activities outside of music would serve as a gateway and eventually lead them to my music. I have been blogging since I didn't have a career in music, so it feels rather natural for me to do various things with music at the core.

What kind of clothes are you usually attracted to?
Mukai:This "UNIQLO U" also has great colors, but I like brands with distinctive colors. I like brands that are basic, classic, and classy, but also subvert those qualities. As an artist, I have recently started to wear patterns and items that are a bit flashy, but in the end, what has stayed with me are items that have a certain elegance to them.
I hear that you wear "UNIQLO U" on a regular basis.
Mukai:I personally really like "UNIQLO U," which has the perfect amount of luminescent color in this simplicity. I think people who like this brand are good at incorporating it into their styling, and I often mix it into my own clothes. Even this one,This Spring/Summer Lookreally like it and would be happy to wear it as it is.

I see. You are very particular about your clothes, both publicly and privately, as you also self-styled your outfits. What do you look for in clothes?
Mukai:I'm the strongest person wearing this right now! (laughs). Wearing clothes gives me a boost emotionally. (Like, "I'm the best wearing this right now!") (This may be similar to music). For example, when I was in high school, I used to listen to hip-hop music on the bus to school with big headphones and thought it was cool even though the bass sound was leaking out a little (laughs). In the same way, I feel very strong and comfortable when I am wearing this kind of clothing.
