01: NIKE_DUNK I like "Dunk" best in navy blue and yellow.
Kohki-san, please tell us about your latest favorite sneakers. Let's start with the "Dunks" that you are wearing right now.
Ogi:This "Dunk" was first reprinted in 1998 and is almost dead stock. I bought it last year at a store in Yoyogihachiman.
The condition is good. And the navy blue and yellow color is beautiful.
Ogi:Dunk" is available in a wide variety of colors, but I like navy blue and yellow the best. It goes great with denim.
I really want the 1985 original, but there are very few left in good condition and they are hard to find. 1998-99 reprints can sometimes be found in relatively good condition if you search patiently.
I have also always wanted a pair of the so-called "Ura-Dunks" with the upper color reversed, and I have been searching for them for a long time, but they are also hard to find now. It is very difficult to find a pair in good condition and just the right size for me.
Do you buy things you can't wear or that don't fit?
Ogi:Basically, I only buy what I can wear. Some people may say that they buy things for their collections even if they can't wear them, but I am not a collector.
Not only the "Dunk," but also other famous Nike bashes from around 1985 have been attracting worldwide attention in recent years, and their market prices have skyrocketed.
Ogi:It's a bit of an unusual level of price hikes, isn't it? The "Air Jordan 1" is particularly popular, with originals in good condition costing more than one million yen. Sneakers that were released exclusively in Japan in the late 1990s and early 2000s have also seen a resurgence in popularity, attracting the attention of people around the world.
The appeal of the classic sneakers of yesteryear is being reevaluated worldwide.
Ogi:Reevaluating the taste and texture that can only be found in the original ones, and enjoying them in the current mood. There may be pros and cons, but I think this is one way to enjoy sneakers.
02:CONVERSE_CHUCK TAYLOR Great texture, vintage 1970s.
Next, "Chuck Taylor" by Converse. Is this also vintage?
Ogi:Yes, these are the one-star heel patches from the 1970's. I found them used in good condition at a vintage shop in Osaka a while ago and bought them at first sight. I found a pair in good condition at a vintage store in Osaka a while ago, and fell in love with them at first sight.
Kogi-san, do you still buy most of your sneakers in real stores?
Ogi:I used to, and still do, buy most of my stuff at the store. I don't often buy sneakers online.
By the way, this "Chuck Taylor" is also in such good condition that it is hard to believe it is vintage.
Ogi:Hydrolysis and deterioration are inevitable problems for old sneakers, but as for "Chuck Taylor," there is not much concern about them due to the nature of the material. However, they still have the distortion and wobbly texture peculiar to those of that era. That's what I love about it.
