From here, I would like to follow the process of creating an item (dining table "KAYA") for "SHFW" for a bit.

The lumber is cut to just the right size, and then run through a machine to smooth the surface.

Then, a wood plate called a cookie is used to join the boards together, and holes are drilled for it.

This is the cookie. It is compressed wood (beech), which expands when moistened. When glue is applied to the cookie and the cookie is placed in the groove, it absorbs the moisture contained in the glue and expands, making a strong and firm bond.

. At the same time, clean the side part where the bark is attached. . Since this is the part that gives the product its flavor, we do so carefully and meticulously.

The brown speckled pattern on the top panel, or "knot," is the result of the original part of a branch being encased in the trunk of a tree as it grows thicker. In the past, it was common knowledge that wood without knots was beautiful, but recently, knots are increasingly being used in furniture and other wooden products as an element of design. SHFW" is made based on this concept.

When you cut the ends to get straight lumber from a log, you naturally get ▼ pieces. Here is a table made from that half piece. This one had a large hole through the center, which they intend to use as a hole to pass cords for chargers and other devices. Naturally, the shapes are all different, so if we were to make use of the ears, holes, and grain of the wood as is, it would be different every time.
