UNIQLO Chino Shorts
Chino shorts and chinos are said to have originated from British Army pants that were originally white, conspicuous, and easily soiled, and then dyed an earthy color. In other words, they are military items, and because there are many "authentic" items left as a major genre of vintage clothing, they are a very difficult item to make.
One of the high hurdles is the texture of the fabric . The quality of the fabric when seen with the naked eye determines the reputation of the chino shorts. These authentic chino shorts seem to know the right balance between the two, and have a fusion of texture and color with a worn-in vintage feel. To achieve this, the "product dyeing" process was adopted, in which the entire product is dyed after sewing, rather than the "fabric dyeing" process in which the fabric is dyed at the fabric stage.
Furthermore, polyester thread is used for the sewing thread in order to make the product more durable and resistant to shrinkage. Since these threads cannot be dyed with cotton dyes, pre-colored threads are used, and of course, meticulous adjustments are made so that the threads and fabric blend with each other when finished.
Note the details that respect the roots of chino so much that even chino enthusiasts approve of them.
Traditional details unique to chino pants, such as the double-brimmed back pockets, double stitching to reinforce the pockets, piping on the fabric edge on the backside of the waist, and sewing on the inseam, give them an authentic look. God is in the details, you know.
Modern elements are also incorporated. In addition to an optimal length of just below the knee when worn oversized, or in the middle of the knee when worn just right, the silhouette is roomy from the thigh to the hem width, resulting in a moderately casual finish.
I don't know if UNIQLO actually thought of the idea of creating something that would make even military enthusiasts groan, but I can certainly sense that level of enthusiasm.
