INTERVIEW WITH MIYAVI A sense of balance on the border between the everyday and the extraordinary.
What kind of clothes do you like?
MIYAVI:
Clothes with functional beauty. I have worn many kinds of clothes, but I am attracted to clothes that have a good balance of functionality and design. Not just something that looks good or is comfortable to wear, but something that has both.
It is easy to take either a song that is pleasant to listen to or a song with a strong message, but it is quite difficult to create a song that is catchy and has a strong message. . But that is exactly why it is worth the challenge as a creator. . In terms of fashion, I think I like to wear clothes that strike a balance between the two.
I see.
MIYAVI:
Also, I work as an actor as well as a musician, and I feel powerful when I put on the clothes brought by the costume designer. When preparing for a role, of course I do a lot of preparation beforehand, but when I put on the costume on the set, I feel even more possessed by the role. I think the power of the clothes and the feelings of the stylists and designers are also a part of it.
I feel that each piece of clothing has its own power, and I want to cherish it. The Dsquared2 outfit that I wore today changes the way I look at the camera from the first to the second styling.

Dsquared2] Knit ¥151,800, Jeans ¥144,100, Necklace ¥58,300, Leather ring ¥24,200 (Dsquared/Staff International Japan Client Service), others: personal effects of the designer
What is your impression of the Dsquared2 brand?
MIYAVI:You are a brand that is luxurious, yet has a warm, everyday feel to it. Of course, wearing glamorous clothes of a high brand requires a lot of energy, and sometimes it can be a bit tiring, but I think Dsq Aird's clothes can be worn on the runway, but I think they also work well as everyday wear. It's like the borderline between the ordinary and the extraordinary, and it looks like it could be worn on an airplane, on a tour, or even on stage.
MIYAVI: The theme of the pre-collection clothes for the spring/summer 2023 collection that you wore this time is "LA.
MIYAVI:It's a free place. It is open. There are many people who are avant-garde in a good sense, not only in fashion but also in environmental issues, and various cultures are advanced. I feel that they really value the significance of entertainment. By the way, why did you choose L.A. as the theme for this year's exhibition?
Two of the designers are surfers, and that's how they ended up in LA. They enjoy surfing during the day and go out on the town at night. The collection has this duality.
MIYAVI:. yes, I know. Indeed, LA is very close to the urban area and nature. After swimming at the beach, you can see snow on the mountains if you travel a couple of hours. In that sense, it is a very dynamic place.
