How did you become a model?
My hometown is Takayama in Gifu Prefecture. I had been reading fashion magazines since then because I liked clothes. I didn't have any particular ambitions, but I wanted to go to Tokyo, so I moved to Tokyo when I entered university. When I arrived in Tokyo, I found many stores and fashionable people, and I fell in love with clothes even more. I have always enjoyed fashion in my own way, and I have done street snapshots and a little bit of modeling work.
At the time, I thought I would only work as a model while I was still in college, but when it was time to start job hunting, my current agency asked me if I wanted to try modeling. I was also job hunting and got a job offer. I was also job hunting and had already received a job offer, but I was having a hard time deciding on a career path, so I thought I would give it a try if I was wanted. That was about a year and a half ago.

What kind of fashion do you like?
I like to match girly clothes with menswear-like outfits. Like today, I wear a tulle skirt with a rugged denim set-up, or on the other hand, if it's a day to wear a dress, I'll wear heavy sneakers or mountaineering boots. It's not sweet and spicy, but I want to find a balance somewhere.
I get the impression that you combine vintage and designer clothes freely and tastefully, without being bound by age or genre.
It's not like I have any knowledge of clothing, such as, "What age is this vintage clothing? I think that is something I will learn as I go along. Fashion is something that I enjoy, or something that makes me feel positive, and that's how I enjoy it now and in the past.

Nanami says, "I think there is a limit to what I can absorb by doing research on my own, so recently I have been borrowing and lending books with friends. Currently, she is reading Keigo Higashino's "A Thread of Hope," which she borrowed from an acquaintance.
long vowel mark (usually only used in katakana)InstagramI see that you have also taken up mountain climbing. What made you start mountain climbing?
My father is a mountain guide in Norikura, Gifu Prefecture, and because of his influence, I have been in contact with the outdoors and nature since I was a child. I have been climbing mountains with my father for a long time, but last year I decided that it was time for me to stand on my own and improve my skills (laughs). (Laughs.) I bought a tent and climbing equipment all at once.
It's not a low-mountain hike, but a very serious one, isn't it?
It was thanks to my father's gifted education (laughs). The other day, I climbed Asama Outer Rim Mountain in Gunma Prefecture, which is about 2,500 m. I started climbing early in the morning at around 4:00 a.m. and descended at around midnight, taking a break in between! The view was great, and I felt really good.
What is the appeal of mountain climbing?
We are surrounded by digital technology nowadays, and the means of communicating with others are all on our smartphones. It's convenient, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but if you do it all the time, you inevitably get tired. But if you get in touch with nature even once a week, you feel as if you are being purified and refreshed. There is a sense of accomplishment when you reach the top, or the feeling of taking a deep breath, that you can't get from a smartphone.

I feel like I know the source of Nanami's power (laughs).
Actually, I have a plan that I am secretly working on. My parents have a mountain, and my grandfather built a log cabin there. The rest of the area is kind of a wasteland, but there are wild vegetables to be picked, so I'm thinking of doing something with them. The road ahead looks rough, but I am really looking forward to it!
What are your future goals as a model?
Every day is a learning experience, but it's also a lot of fun. I like people so much that I want to go out and visit new places and meet new people even on my days off.
There are not many modeling jobs where you work with the exact same staff. I think it is my calling to be in an environment where I can meet new people every day and share values with them. The process of creating a single visual is, of course, anxious, but it is also fun. Like mountain climbing, seeing new landscapes is the source of my strength. It is even more so when I can share it with many people. I would like to meet and absorb many people and grow as a person.
