I have been to about eight Oasis concerts so far. The most memorable one was the 4th album release tour, which was my first time to see the band. I managed to get standing room at Yokoari through Ticket Pia and went with a group of rock-loving friends. I was still in my teens, and I chose to wear a velvet jacket, my one and only jacket at the time, because it was UK rock. It was a deep green jacket with white pinstripes and a compact V-zone in a mod style. It was the first live performance of the band I had longed to see, and I vividly remember the outfit as well as the scene that day. Remembering those days, I couldn't help but pick up a "Needles" velvet jacket that was released exclusively at "Nepenthes" directly-managed stores. The fabric is shiny and elegant, but with its loose A-line silhouette, it can also be worn casually like a coverall. I have worn dozens of pairs of Red Wing boots, but my favorite model is the Pecos boot. While retaining the form of a Western boot, the workboot-derived design and tough construction typical of Red Wing are truly one-of-a-kind in appearance, and they are the most masculine of all. There are many genres of photography, but I prefer portraiture. I especially like the work of William Eggleston, Wolfgang Tillmans, August Zander, Jamie Hawksworth, and others who confront their subjects, and when I look at the people reflected in their work, I find myself wanting to imagine their characters. What they are wearing, where they are standing, their casual gestures. In a sense, I think the real appeal of portraits is the feeling that there is so much information and yet so little, leaving room for the viewer to decide for himself or herself. Just the other day, I visited the exhibition "Room About Room" by photographer Alec Sos, currently being held at the "Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. Sos is a full member of Magnum Photos, a world-renowned group of photographers, and one of the leading documentary photographers in the United States today. As the title suggests, this exhibition looks back on his activities over the past 30 years through works shot indoors. The 60 or so portraits and landscapes displayed at the exhibition are all worth seeing, but I was surprised by the clarity of the 8 x 10 images, which I could not believe were shot on film. So I picked up this photo book, "Songbook," at the museum store of the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. I wanted to keep the impression of the exhibition in my mind by buying the book. To tell the truth, I was also attracted by the fact that it was autographed (laughs).
