Daw 90000, Sho Hasumi and writer Ban Obara. A story about a point of view that scoops up the everyday.

Daw 90000's Sho Hasumi and writer Ban Obara respect each other, even though they work in different fields. When I get in touch with their activities, I am reminded of the importance of how and from where we look at things in our daily lives. To get a glimpse of this, we took them to a park with a Fujifilm "instax mini 99™," an analog instant camera, and asked them about their perspectives through this camera, which offers six different colors and five levels of shading adjustment to create their own unique expressions. I asked her about her point of view.

It's twice as much fun when you look back on it as it is when you take it.

I think that both the performance you visit and the book as a physical object are physical, analog experiences rather than digital ones. Are you particular about these things?

Hasumi: Theater is analog, but even though it's analog, it doesn't remain in a tangible form, so I'd like to make a DVD of it someday. it's the weakest record of all, that it doesn't remain unless you make a DVD or something. I envy books because they remain in their original state. In the case of theater, we can't leave it as it is. I think that's why theater was not very popular.

Obara: I usually buy e-books as well, but I think the information aspect will be stronger. I think physical books are better because they are stronger as memories.

I heard that the "instax mini 99™" you used this time is focused on the fun of analog operation.

Obara: It's cute both as a camera design and as a thing. With this texture, it is easy to hold even for adults. This is light and easy to use.

Hasumi: It's nice, and it's a weight you can carry around.

How did you feel when you took the pictures? The "instax mini 99™" is equipped with four LEDs inside the camera, and features a function called "Color Effect Control," which can produce six different color expressions by directly illuminating the film.

Obara: When I first inserted the film cartridge, the inside of the camera lit up, and I was so surprised that I closed it (laughs). (Laughs.) When I took the pictures, I found that even if I aimed too high, sometimes they didn't turn out as I had imagined. I would get a "what the heck? So I think it works better if you take pictures with a light heart, just thinking, "This is how it's going to look. I think it is surprisingly better to take pictures without getting carried away.

Hasumi: There are six color effects, but at this point, I don't think it is absolutely necessary to use these colors. I think it would be fine if all of them were used.

Do you mean that the "randomness" of color, light, and angle of view that happens by chance is conversely fresh and new to you?

Obara: With an analog camera, you can't immediately re-shoot or look back. I thought this was a new experience. Because my generation has grown up with smartphones since we were in elementary or junior high school, it was natural for us to take a picture and then immediately re-shoot it, thinking that it doesn't look like this or that it would look better this way. But with this camera, the viewfinder is slightly different from what you can actually see in the picture, so the angle of view is not exactly the same as in the viewfinder, so it was interesting to be able to capture the subject in a casual way.

One of the features of the "instax mini 99™" is the "vignetting mode," which allows you to adjust the amount of vignetting by physically placing a feather at the lens aperture.

Hasumi: There's a sense of perspective that stands out.

Obara: Yes, the atmosphere...I think it gives off a vibe (laughs). I like "Vignette Mode" a lot. There is a photo of Ms. Hasumi in the distance, and it's cute, with a distinctly poofy look.

I see a slight difference in your two perspectives, even within the same park. Mr. Obara went to take pictures of the shadows...

Obara: But if you look closely, you can see Mr. Hasumi coming into view in many of the photos (laughs).

How would you like to enjoy Chekiprints™ taken with the "instax mini 99™"?

Hasumi: I want to put my favorite Chekiprints™ in the back of my phone case. I would also like to save them in a messy order, so that when I look back on them after a while, I can think back and wonder why I took them in the first place. I think it's interesting that there aren't many things nowadays that remain in a proper form.

Obara: When you look at the printed photo, at first it is a blur, and then gradually (as you watch the image emerge) ahhhh! Aaaaah!!! and I enjoy the time it takes for that gradual image to emerge, as if this might be a pretty picture.

It looks like it would be a good bookmark for a book. If you are self-publishing, you could add it as an extra.

Obara: That's a good one. Pretend I said that (laughs).

Obara: It is also nice to arrange them in a row like this.

Hasumi: Indeed. The photos are so natural that it's hard to believe you went to all that trouble to take them.

I think this camera is unconventional, as if it is so far analog. Can you two tell us about something that is not so much excellent in terms of functionality, but on the contrary, something that is not as good as it could be, but that you are attached to?

Hasumi: I don't know...I don't know...it could be something. It's not like NES or 64 (Rokuyon) or anything like that (laughs)? I do play board games, though.

Obara: This may be a little off, but I am in Tsutaya Discus. I couldn't get the movie you recommended, even with subs or something, and I had no other way to watch it.

Hasumi: That reminds me, I'm on music.jp too (laughs). There are songs that can only be heard there.

(laughs). Finally, how would you two incorporate the "instax mini 99™" into your lives?

Hasumi: I enjoy the moment when I am taking the pictures, but I think it will be fun to look back at them after a while. To do so, I might put the photos I took out of sight and put them to bed.

Obara: I would like to take pictures of my friends and other people. Like Mr. Hasumi's sleeping habit today, or a key chain attached to a friend's tote bag. Such things are unexpectedly temporary. I think it would be fun to exchange ideas like, "You liked this kind of thing back then, didn't you?
