On April 2, Japan Standard Time, a rocket launched in Florida, USA, attracted a great deal of attention. The mission, known as “Artemis II,” is a crewed lunar exploration mission planned by NASA. The rocket, carrying a crew of four, is scheduled to orbit the Moon for about 10 days before returning to Earth.
In conjunction with this, OMEGA has unveiled a watch called the “Speedmaster X-33.” It is said that all four astronauts participating in the “Artemis II” mission are wearing it.
The eye-catching feature is the hybrid dial, which combines a digital display with a three-hand analog display. The 42.25-millimeter-wide case is made of Grade 2 titanium, and the bracelet is reportedly made of titanium as well.
And while it’s equipped with a quartz movement on the inside, I’m intrigued by the fact that it’s a multifunction model featuring GMT, an alarm, a chronograph, and a day-date display.
Looking back, it was in 1961 that humans first set foot on the moon as part of the “Apollo Program.” At that time, the crew wore the “Speedmaster Professional,” a watch that is still beloved by many today.
Given this background, I imagine there are some people who would like to try wearing this “Speedmaster X-33” on their wrist. However, unfortunately, it is a model issued as official NASA equipment and is not available for purchase.
