Artist SHUN SUDO, who divides his time between Tokyo and New York and is active in a variety of fields, including mural painting and various corporate collaborations, will hold his solo exhibition "ARTdemic" at MU GALLERY in Tennozu, Tokyo, from December 11 (Sat), 2012.
Self-taught in art while wandering the world, SHUN SUDO has attracted attention for his unique style that mixes inspiration from movies, music, anime, and sports, a touch of Japanese ink painting, and a pop taste reminiscent of street art.
At this year's "ARTdemic," 15 new works by SHUN SUDO will be exhibited and sold. All of them are so colorful and energetic that they seem to jump out of the canvas at any moment.
Also, a book of his works, "2020," will be on sale at the venue, so please check it out.
Why do you paint? What is the background of this painting? What is art? I paint because I want to paint, but for some reason, I am asked for words. There is no reason. No story, no background. I am not even aware that I am doing art. I feel like I have a message, but that is not why I am painting. I just paint what I want to paint, when I want to paint it, and how I want to paint it. The me who paints is like me, but it is not me, and I feel like it is not me, but it is still me. I cannot verbalize this feeling, nor do I want to. I am painting because I am so happy at that moment. I keep painting.
