Enjoy the recipes of famous chefs at a casual and reasonable price. . but the taste is restaurant quality and authentic.
Just a few days ago, we opened a new restaurant in Futakotamagawa, called88 Asiais just such a restaurant. Produced by HOUYHNHNM's, which has been awarded a star in the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2020 for three consecutive years.sioled by Shusaku Toba of "send away (e.g. one's child)".
As Toba's wish is to increase the "denominator of happiness," the store is filled with excitement that makes you want to share the fun with others.
The front of the restaurant has a pop-up stall-style atmosphere, while the back has chic sofa seating, depending on your mood of the day.
The concept of this restaurant was inspired by the "feel" of Vietnamese and Thai food stalls. The lively atmosphere, the casual, easy-going warmth of the people, and the slightly edgy weirdness. It has an exotic atmosphere that has not been felt for a long time.
The first thing that grabs your stomach as you enter the restaurant is the stimulation of your sense of smell and hearing. The spicy aroma typical of Asian restaurants and the sound of cooking in the restaurant's open kitchen stimulate the appetite at once. This is cheating.
Lunch, such as the Asian Beef Noodle with Vegetables (¥880), has a casual image that makes it easy for women to stop by alone. On the other hand, when you look down at the menu for dinner, you will be surprised to find that the prices are more reasonable than expected, as it is a place where even men can enjoy a little drink and a hearty meal.
It is surprising that the most expensive menu item throughout the day and night is Tom Yam Kung Pho in shrimp broth (1,290 yen). It really is a setting that anyone can easily visit, and yet, it is insanely good.
The signature dish is 88 Pho (¥980), named after the restaurant. 88 Asia is operated by Menshoku, which is well known for its "Kitakata Ramen Sannai," and the emphasis on noodles is such that the restaurant is not satisfied with the imported dried noodles available in Japan, but insists on using the same fresh noodles as the real thing, resulting in the development of "premium Japanese fresh rice noodles. They were not satisfied with the imported dried noodles available in Japan, but insisted on the same fresh noodles as the originals.
The noodles are firm and chewy, and the soup, made from pork and beef bones simmered for four hours, is a perfect match with the tender beef. Combined with the sweetness of coconut, it is the perfect lunch or after-drinking drink.
And not to be missed is the "HEY! Vine Me" (¥880).
This menu item, available only for lunch and takeout on weekdays, inherits the recipe and naming of the takeout "báinh mì" that "sio" started in the Corona disaster. The healthy sandwich with meat and plenty of vegetables will make you happy when you gobble it down with all your might.
It is also good to visit with several people at night and share a drink and a bite to eat.
The refreshingly savory Pak Choy Salad (¥650), the set of three spring rolls (¥1,080), which can be eaten raw, fried or steamed, the spicy shrimp Mao Tse Tung (¥1,280), and the crispy and irresistible fried air-cushion greens with tao chi (¥ (¥880).... Whether you are in the mood for a light meal or a hearty meal, you will not go wrong with any of these dishes.
The menu includes more than 10 kinds of home-made lemon sours (¥480-¥550), 7 kinds of beer (¥580-¥880), wine, soft drinks, and everything in between. Naturals are good with Chinese food, but it is also nice to enjoy a variety of wines.
And even if you eat and drink as much as you like, you can enjoy yourself for less than 3,000 yen per person. You will be surprised that a one-star chef's recipe can be served at such a reasonable price. I think you will be quite surprised. If you go to Futakotamagawa, you may want to visit this restaurant just for the food. I will probably repeat my visit.
