Good furniture lasts forever. Old Maruni" by Maruni Woodworks was renovated and supervised by Takayuki Fujii, a designer who loves furniture.

Last year, Maruni Woodworks held a pop-up event titled "RE-INNOVATION - A New Form of Furniture Rebirth" in collaboration with Isetan Shinjuku store, which received a great response.

This event was a new attempt to not only restore old objects to their original state, but also to arrange and customize them with the user's sensibilities, transforming them into new value and existence.

The supervision was done by Takayuki Fujii, a designer at "non-native," who has a deep knowledge not only of fashion but also of furniture and interior design. He had long been attracted to the so-called "Old Maruni" products, making him the perfect person for the job.

To begin with, Maruni Woodworking has been producing numerous pieces of furniture over its nearly century-long history. Even classic furniture manufactured half a century ago has products that are popular on the second-hand market for their reliable craftsmanship, functionality, and universal design.

Among them, the products manufactured from the 1950s to the 1970s are symbolized by the peacock mark, the logo of the time, and are nicknamed "Old Maruni" among second-hand and vintage furniture lovers.

And now, following the success of the previous event, which was well received, a second event will be held.

Fujii, who is again supervising the project, has chosen "low angles" as the theme of the project.

For this project, Mr. Fujii visited the head factory in Hiroshima to get in touch with the origin of Maruni Mokko's furniture making, and through dialogue with craftsmen and others, he experienced firsthand the possibilities of their techniques and materials, and was more deeply involved in the supervision of the renovated furniture.

The lineup includes lounge chairs as furniture that makes you want to share a moment when you lean back, lower your eyes, and reset time, as well as a magazine rack that blends into the same space.

Fujii will renovate low-angle products such as the deck chair, which was sold in 1952 under the nickname "Oasis" and was popular at the time, the "New Polima," a rare Scandinavian-style armless chair sold from 1970 to 1980, other night tables and magazine racks, and others. Fujii supervised the renovation.

The direction is not to be eccentric, but rather to maximize the appeal of the product while retaining the period feel of the time when the product was manufactured and aiming for a perfection of the product that is applicable today.

This exquisite moderation seems to come from Mr. Fujii's high resolution for the brand.

The products for this event will be accompanied by a plate with a reprint of the original Peacock logo as a model supervised by Takayuki Fujii. Naturally, all products are one-of-a-kind.

This exhibition has a completely different connotation from the fast-moving fashion trends. Please come and experience the slow and essential mood of the exhibition.
