The 41stdownstream
It is "Densha Otoko" (Train Man). I don't mean the story that was talked about a while ago, but a man who uses trains. If you live in Tokyo and do most of your errands in the city, public transportation is easier to use than a car. It is stressful to look for an empty parking lot or to visit a passing store on a whim by car. I can't even drink beer when I eat.
Recently, I have been using the bus a lot. In fact, last night, I was waiting for a cab when a car didn't show up, so I took the bus that arrived first. The buses are surprisingly quick at night. Lately, cabs have been getting harder to find (compared to myself), so I take the bus more often.
Buses are good. I can kill time just looking outside without looking at my phone. Or rather, it is a good time to organize my thoughts. The scenery is flowing, people are walking, and there is no driving. I would even go so far as to say that there is no better way to deepen your contemplation.
I digress. I was talking about public transportation.
This public transportation user and the person who drives a car on a daily basis dress differently in winter. Car people tend to want to wear shorter, blouson-like outerwear rather than longer coats, while public men can enjoy dressing however they like without worrying about length. Public men, you get the idea, don't you?
But what is a public man's weakness is his down jacket. It is too hot to wear this on a train or bus. Just imagining riding a crowded train in winter with bags and other baggage and wearing a down jacket makes me dizzy.
Although Japan continues to experience mild winters, it is still cold outside in winter. Just walking outside for 10 minutes makes me miss my down jacket. I often make mistakes because of it. On such days, I sometimes get fed up with having to go to meetings by train.
I guess I'm a poor learner, but I still buy down almost every season, which is what I do.
Last season, I wore something from our own brand "White Mountaineering" almost every day. Perhaps that's why I got tired of it.
Bottoms and shirts can last for several seasons, but outerwear bores me. There is always the agonizing problem of having a full closet but nothing to wear before going out.
So, something for this season.
No, it doesn't have to be down.
