I would like to respond to the love letter.
You have been an actor for almost 30 years now.
Shibukawa: I am not conscious of it at all, but I think I am changing little by little. I am becoming aware of my own theatrical habits. I look at the natural movements of young people these days and wonder if I can do it like that. I'm beginning to understand what I'm not good at. I've learned that I have a lisp and I'm not good at lines with "sa" lines. Well, on the other hand, it may turn into a unique charm like Kunie Tanaka's phrasing.
Do you have any criteria for choosing a job?
Shibukawa: Basically, I never say no. It has always been that way. I do independent films at all, and I would rather do them. Hamaguchi (director Hamaguchi) has been doing independent films since he was a student. He invited me and we have been doing it ever since. That is very interesting.
How did it all start?
Shibukawa: I think it was for my graduation project when Hama-chan came to our office to shoot a Russian film called "Planet Solaris. But it was a very difficult role, so I said, "No, maybe I'm not the right person for this. But I said, "No, I don't think it's for me. But they said, "We want you to do it. Since then, we have worked together on four films, including "Coincidence and Imagination. That kind of thing happens from time to time. There are a lot of people who write me love letters saying, "I want to shoot this kind of picture, so I want you to do it. Of course, I try to respond to them.
Do you feel that the atmosphere on site differs depending on the director?
Shibukawa: It was totally different. When I went to Kiyoshi Kurosawa's set, it was amazing. It was a film in which a lot of people were talking in a jumbled up way, but the shooting was done in one shot. I thought it was wonderful. In the TV drama "Detective, Your Backpack is Open," which is currently running, Mr. Shuichi Okita shoots only the face of the person who is listening to him while we are talking. I think that kind of thing is great. It depends on the director.
Do you have any new projects you would like to try in the future?
Shibukawa: I would like to work on a film with a long time span, such as a film that takes about a year to shoot. It's not quite the same, but what I'm doing with Director Toyoda may be similar to that. I am still working on "Transcending Dimensions TRANSCENDING We go to the regions, say hello to the people, and eat and drink good food afterwards. In the end, that is the most enjoyable part.
