I like the easy-to-understand design and current sizing!
Last year, you celebrated the 20th anniversary of the label's establishment.
Horned:Anyway, it was a long time. However, it is something I love to do, so while it makes me happy, I always want to take on challenges from new perspectives so that I don't become complacent. In that sense, the opening of this restaurant was a big step forward.
Did you always have the desire to create a store?
Horned: Yes, I have been thinking about it since I was working part-time at a record store once upon a time. After 20 years of working for a label, we wanted to make ourselves and our friends' works more accessible to the public. We wanted a place where we could physically communicate what we like and what constitutes kakubalism. We wanted a place where people who came to our store could get a sense of what it is like to be a part of Kakubalism.
. The area of Shoin Shrine where this store is located seems to be getting more and more exciting these days.
Horned: That's right! A sister store of a vintage clothing shop called "FILM," which I have been a customer of for a long time, is opening near here, and so on. There are also nice, mature stores and restaurants in the Uemachi and Sakurashinmachi areas, so I think this area will be the next big thing (laughs).
Do you like vintage clothes?
Horned: . I like it. . I often wear outdoor brand clothes, too, regardless of whether they are old or new. When I was young, I was really influenced by the fact that the Fishmans wore outdoor clothes (laughs). (Laughs.) I have always loved vintage clothing, partly because I admired the unadorned, naturally wild look of my favorite hardcore and indie bands from overseas.
Did you also wear "Elle Bean"?
Horned: I really like "L.L. Bean," and I still receive their mail-order catalog every season. I even subscribe to their mail magazine (laughs). My father originally liked the brand, and I came to like it because of him. I moved to Tokyo when I was a teenager and lived in Kokubunji, so I often went to the directly managed store in Kichijoji.
How do you like L.L.Bean Japan Edition?
Horned: Of course I checked this out (laughs). The design is easy to understand, and the sizing has been arranged in line with the current fashion scene. The fleece is also very nice. Moreover, I actually didn't have an item like this. Something that is easy to put on and take off, and can be handled with a little care, is going to come in handy this season.
. I'm sure it will be useful at live performances and such.
Horned: My work involves a lot of travel and carrying equipment, so I thought this item could be worn in those various situations as well. At home, I have two children, so to be honest, I prefer something functional for my daily life. So it fits my current style very well. That's what I expect from L.L. Bean (laughs).
