FUTURE NATURE Ⅱ in Kagoshima, a visualization of the inside of YOSHIROTTEN's head
FUTURE NATURE II In Kagoshima
The exhibition is positioned as a sequel to the solo exhibition "FUTURE
This exhibition was positioned as a sequel to "FUTURE NATURE," a solo exhibition held in Tokyo in 2018. The works, which combine various elements such as video, prints, aluminum, monitors, rocks, and Yakusugi cedar, with a space that changes expression depending on the time of day, are of course a must-see.

-The exhibition "FUTURE NATURE II in Kagoshima" at Kirishima Art Forest closed with great success the other day. What was the impetus for holding the exhibition this time?
I have been exhibiting my work in various forms for several years, and each time I did so, I had a new goal in mind: I wanted to have a large exhibition at a museum someday. I also thought that if I were to have my first solo exhibition at a museum, it would be nice if it could be held in my hometown, where my roots are. I have been focusing on fine art activities for the past few years, and while I was actively approaching the outside world, including doing installations on the beach in my hometown of Kagoshima, I received an offer from the "Kirishima Art Forest in Kagoshima Prefecture" to hold a solo exhibition there.
-What exactly did you have in mind when you were planning this exhibition?
The first exhibition I showed in 2018, "FUTURE The solo exhibition "NATURE" was a big exhibition for me where I could express what I wanted to do to the fullest, and I wanted to reconstruct and express that theme again using the nature of Kagoshima as a motif. FUTURE NATURE" was a big exhibition that allowed me to express what I wanted to express to the fullest extent. The concept of "NATURE" is to convey nature, the universe, and even light itself from a new angle, and I felt that the "Kirishima Art Forest in Kagoshima Prefecture," which is surrounded by magnificent nature and in perfect harmony with art, was the perfect place for this exhibition because of its affinity with the content of the exhibition.
-What are some of the updates from the previous "Future Nature"?
In 2018, "FUTURE This time, I have updated a few things that I could not yet do in "NATURE". The work "Tranthrow" is a work that captures light reflected on the wall of a space-bound aircraft. I also created all the works based on materials obtained through fieldwork in various places in Kirishima.
-On the other hand, there were also some works that showed evolution in the digital context.
Such works include the giant LED panels and the work I mentioned earlier that projects a unique center in real time. While using nature as a motif, I express what is created by the connection with light, which I have been pursuing for a long time, as a new landscape not only through video and prints, but also through experimental digital mediation. The entire space is also designed as a huge installation, with different expressions depending on the weather, time of day, and other changes in light. I hope that this will provide an opportunity for visitors to gain some kind of awareness or a "what if" perspective.
-He spends a great deal of time in advance preparation, and the composition and space are so meticulously planned that you may feel as if you are peeking inside YOSHIROTTEN's head.
That's right. In fact, my own feelings when I am working on a piece of work are empty, or I don't remember anything at all. So I don't have any plan or aim at all. Perhaps it is because many of the works this time were created by collaging many materials on the computer like painting with a brush, and ended up looking like abstract paintings. In this sense, unlike when I do commercial art or design work for clients, this was a space where I was able to meet works that were innocent, or rather, pure of heart.
-How was the response from those who came to the event?
The reception on the opening day was attended by nearly 300 friends from Tokyo, overseas, and other regions, and many people, including those from outside the prefecture, visited us during the exhibition period. Some of them came into contact with nature on the way to Kirishima, and others lingered in the land of Kagoshima after seeing the exhibition. I was very happy to hear that some of them said that they gained something through "FUTURE NATURE II in Kagoshima," which is exactly the ideal experience that I had envisioned.
