The bold patchwork as well as the understated damage work made me groan. The contrast with the clean metal buttons is also perfect.
Dior's Summer 2026 collection, which Jonathan Anderson led for the first time, was full of pieces, but this overshirt caught the eye.
As you might guess, the denim was woven and processed in Japan, but I rolled my eyes at the lining. On the inside pocket was printed “MADE IN JAPAN” with the words “Made in Japan” in Chinese characters.
Anderson's achievements are noteworthy in that he has not only incorporated arts and crafts as sources for his designs, but has also tried to reevaluate them and connect them to the next generation, establishing the "Loewe Foundation Craft Prize" in 2016 and the "JW Anderson Collection Fund" in 2011. Both are attempts to put the spotlight on the makers of these products.
In addition to this shirt, a small number of Japanese denim pieces appeared in the debut collection. The kanji notation is perhaps a tribute to Anderson's style, which never forgets to be humorous. The proud smile of a craftsman wiping sweat from his indigo-dyed hands comes to mind.
