In the 1990s, the term "vintage" was used to describe vintage clothing that did not meet the definition of "antique," but still had value, as opposed to "antique" clothing that was 100 years old. Nowadays, there is a movement to find new value in "new vintage," even in old clothes from the 1980s onward, which used to be called "regular" vintage clothes. In this project, four vintage clothing stores with different styles propose new ways to enjoy vintage clothing. Each of them will talk about the charm of vintage clothing with their own sense of style.
All new stores have been replaced, and the 13th season has turned around. In the 103rd issue, YUTA of "Mr. Chubby," which has a wide range of customers in the fierce secondhand clothing battleground of Koenji, makes his second round! What new vintage items will he introduce this time?

What are the new vintage items you are going to introduce this time?
As I mentioned last time, I myself am an outdoor enthusiast, so I thought this time I would focus on the "ALL CONDITIONS" line from L.L.Bean, which has many fans, but is hard to find in other brands. I thought I would focus on the "ALL CONDITIONS" line, which is hard to find in other brands. I haven't paid attention to this line at all until now, but I have a feeling that it is already gaining attention in some circles and will quickly become well-known from here on out.
Mr. Aoki of SIESTA mentioned the "Outdoors" line in the past.
As is obvious from the name, it was a line similar to Nike's "ACG" line in the 1990s. It was classified as a high-end line that specialized in functionality, but unfortunately, it seems to have been terminated after about 4 to 5 years. I think that is the reason why they were not distributed very much.
I think Eddie Bauer has a line like that, too.
The high-performance line "EBTEK" was launched in 1996 and lasted for a few years. I think it is similar to EBTEK in terms of the groove. However, to be honest, there are many models that are not so cool, and among them, we have prepared models that we think are good in terms of both quality and design. First is this Hooded Insulation Jacket. In short, it is a hooded jacket with padding (laughs).

What a great atmosphere!
The original model of this was released in the 80's from the regular line, and in addition to this hooded jacket, a vest and pullover were also available. It was available in green and blue. The detailed design is exactly the same, so I wonder if this model was inspired from it.
The slider seems to rotate around and can be used on the front and back.
As indicated by the pocket specifications, the hood straps, and the PrimaLoft tag on the inside, it is possible that this item could have been worn as both an outer layer and a liner, although it is not reversible.
And the second one is a mountain parka. It has a very cool face.
It probably is. The name tag shows that it is from the 80's, but the design has the smell of both the 80's and the 90's. It is an interesting piece of clothing. Oh, and by the way, it is already equipped with Gore-Tex.

It's true that in a late 90's model like this, it would have been possible to use rubber parts for the zipper pulls, but it was never the case.
On the other hand, the tabs on the hand pocket flaps, the windshield on the front, the mesh inner pockets with seam tape, and the round hook-and-loop fasteners on the cuff belts are firmly in the 90s. This was a transitional period before the move toward full-fledged high-tech, but isn't this mix of styles interesting?
The overall atmosphere is somewhat similar to Patagonia's classic "Super Alpine.
Yes. However, the shell material here is nylon 100% ripstop. To be honest, this one may be better than Pata in terms of the texture of the fabric (laugh). I have sold another color with the same design before, but I personally like the black one the best. You can see that they studied other brands and pursued their own originality in manufacturing their products.
I'll have to check out the "All Conditions" section.
They are more outdoor-oriented than city wear, and while they are made with a focus on functionality, they also have a sense of fashion in their design. The key point is that you can find these items not in the current collection, but in second-hand clothing, and not old, but new-vintage 90's items. This is the point.
It's exactly what I'm in the mood for.
Recently, the "Japan Edition," which reissues its own archives, has been releasing updated masterpieces, and I have a feeling that this area is about to be hooked up as well. Personally, I liked the high-end yet niche position of the brand, and I hope that it will not attract too much attention, but if you dig into it as the next step, I think you will find new charms and ways to enjoy Bean's products.

In 2021, Mr. Chubby and his partner Kazuma opened "Mr. Chubby" in Koenji, known as a fierce battleground for vintage clothing. The items purchased mainly from the U.S. and Europe include vintage and regular "secondhand" clothing, as well as domestic and maison brands, both old and new, that their antennae have caught. They also offer an original clothing line, and their fifth item, a bag, has been well received.
