In the 1990s, the term "vintage" was used to describe vintage clothing that did not meet the definition of "antique," but still had value, as opposed to "antique" clothing that was 100 years old. Nowadays, there is a movement to find new value in "new vintage," even in old clothes from the 1980s onward, which used to be called "regular" vintage clothes. In this project, four vintage clothing stores with different styles propose new ways to enjoy vintage clothing. Each of them will talk about the charm of vintage clothing with their own sense of style.

The 14th season started with all new stores! The 108th edition, the last of the first round, features Bunya from "tempo," who appears for the second time! What new vintages will he introduce!

It's been a while! This is the second time since Season 5! Since then, the world surrounding vintage and secondhand clothing has changed a lot, but how are things going for you in terms of "Tempo"?

It seems to me that people's awareness has changed so that even recent items, such as the Stussy items from the 00s that I introduced earlier, can be considered secondhand clothing.

Since the younger generation began to think of vintage clothing as "fashionable" in a larger sense, rather than "vintage clothing is good," the sense of fashion has changed dramatically, hasn't it?

I guess so. But on the other hand, we also get a better response if the brand name stands out, such as with a catchy logo.

One of the reasons for this is that they are buying on the assumption that they will sell when they get tired of it or when the price goes up.

If that's the case, it's a very sad story, isn't it? There are still many interesting clothes that are nothing special... So this time, I would like to introduce items from Patagonia, a brand I like as much as the previous "Stussy" brand.

I have the impression that this is a major brand that everyone knows, even if they don't like vintage clothing...?

That's right. The first item is this quilted jacket. The first one is this quilted jacket with vertical quilting that smells more classical than the famous "Nanopuff Jacket". However, neither the age nor the model name is known...

Usually, with Patagonia, you can tell the age by looking at the tag, but there is no mention of it on this one. I'm pretty sure this is a model from 2000 to 2010, though, judging from the tag.

I don't even know what it's called, but it's kind of interesting. What are some of the other highlights?

The other point is that the name tag is attached to the sleeve, which I think is the same age as the "New Sheldo Scintilla" that appeared around 2004, which also had a tag in this position. I remember seeing a navy version in a different color before, so I am sure that this is not a boot model but a properly released model....

Well, I wouldn't make a boot for a model whose name is not well-known (laughs). There must be some kind of original story, like "SEARS" from the 1960s to the 1980s, or something like this....

Or maybe a ski jacket, given the pitch width of this quilting. An interesting detail is the zip. It is a rotating zip. It also has a mesh zip pocket on the inside, which is a nice design feature. However, it is hard to imagine it being reversible from a sewing point of view, but when you actually turn it inside out, you can see that it is indeed reversible (laughs). It is truly a mysterious piece of clothing.

(laughs). And the second one, is the name of the model also unknown?

No, this is the "Transwarmer Jacket" model. In the same generation, several models with such work jacket-like details have been released, and a model called "Double Duty Jacket" is popular and its price has skyrocketed in recent years because it resembles "Detroit Jacket" of "Carhartt". The price has also skyrocketed.

So this model is in the same vein, but with a more next-generation feel. What are its features?

The outer fabric has a cotton-like texture but is 100% nylon. The lining is lined with a fine-ribbed cordyroy fabric, and there is a back pocket on the back that looks like a game pocket. These are divided on the left and right sides, and somehow have the smell of hunting.

It was released in the spring season of 2002. This is probably the only model available for this year, and there is also a women's type with a slightly different design and a vest type with no sleeves.

Until a decade ago, Patagonia had the image of only major models being sold at high prices, but has the situation changed recently?

That's right. Patagonia's outerwear used to have an overwhelmingly strong image of shell jackets and fleeces, but this has been changing as other items are also attracting attention. In the case of the two items introduced here, I think one of the reasons why they are popular is that they are "unique," i.e., they can be worn without being seen in the same group as others. Both of these items are still only "partially" popular, so it would be a good idea to check them out while you still can.
