Fashion in the 2000s is once again on the rise. This season's BEAMS collection is also based on the theme of "Y2K" and focuses on the culture of the 2000s, which emerged after the 1990s. What kind of behind-the-scenes stories can be found in the clothes that have been created in this way? Together with Motoki Yoshikawa, director of the men's casual department, we explore the strategies for this season's original items.
Dairiku Okamoto of "DAIRIKU," a brand that has been experiencing particular momentum among domestic brands, was invited as a guest to talk about "BEAMS" items from his perspective as a designer, with a common thread of craftsmanship with stories based on vintage clothing and movies as the bagbone.

BEAMS APRIL LOOK

The theme of "BEAMS" this season is "Y2K" . The futuristic ideas of the early 2000's, a transitional period from analog to digital, are reflected in the fashion of the time. The lineup includes blousons, vests, and cargo pants featuring sporty and technical materials and detail work, as well as items that are typical of the usual "BEAMS" lineup, such as vintage-like track jackets and tailored jackets that still retain the scent of the 90's. . and tailored jackets that still have a 90's feel to them.

Dairiku Okamoto

Born in Nara , Japan in 1994. . When he was in high school, he became interested in vintage clothing and was influenced by the fashion culture in Ame-mura, Osaka. He later enrolled in the Fashion Design Department at the Vantan Design Institute and started his own brand, "DAIRIKU" while still in school, winning the grand prize at the "Asia fashion collection" in 2016. The following year, he presented his collection on the runway at New York Fashion Week.

Motoki Yoshikawa

After joining BEAMS in 2001 and gaining experience as a store staff member, he became a buyer of men's casual wear in 2012, and was promoted to chief buyer in 2015, where he currently serves as director.
