Launched in 1982 as a premium running shoe, the New Balance “990” has been loved by many for over 40 years. The name comes from the fact that, on a scale of 1,000, it scores 990.
Their latest release, the "Made in USA 990v7," will go on sale on Friday, November 6.
The “Made in USA 990v7” was developed under the design philosophy of “Memories from the Future.” It reinterprets the series’ iconic features from a contemporary perspective, resulting in a design that seamlessly blends approachability with innovation. While retaining the timeless appeal unique to the “990” series, the key lies in the subtle updates to its proportions, layering, and structure, which have evolved the design into a more refined look.

The upper features a premium design that combines pig suede, highly breathable mesh, high-quality leather accents, and a synthetic suede swaybar. The midsole incorporates a foam version of the FuelCell technology—first introduced in the “990v6”—that has been further softened to deliver superior cushioning and responsiveness.
In addition, ENCAP technology, the iconic CR device, and the newly adopted TPU midfoot shank support stability and a smooth stride. These updates deliver a dynamic ride experience while preserving the comfort and style that the “990” series has cultivated over the years.
New Balance Harajuku currently has samples available for you to try on before the official release. If you're curious about the improved comfort, why not try them on for yourself first?
