What is the New Vintage anyway?

In the 1990s, the term "vintage" was used to describe vintage clothing that did not meet the definition of "antique," but was still valuable. Nowadays, there is a movement to find new value in "new vintage," even in old clothes from the 1980s onward, which were called "regular" at the time. In this project, four vintage clothing stores with different styles propose new ways to enjoy vintage clothing. Each of them will talk about the charm of vintage clothing with their own sense of style.

Starting with this issue, three stores have been replaced and restarted. The ninth installment is by Mr. Hajime Sakamoto of "instant bootleg store.

-Now, what are the new vintage items you would like to introduce to us?

The theme of this issue is fleece jackets. A decade ago, fleece was all about Patagonia. Recently, many street and skate brands have added fleece jackets to their fall/winter lineups, making them a complete staple. However, most people may not know about this "BLACK MOUNTAIN" brand.

-This is the first time the author has seen it. It's coming this year! I've been told that fleece wear is "coming this year," but....

Yes, that's why! That's why! Black Mountain" is where a "softy" like me ends up! I have been aware of this brand for about four years now, and I have looked at a lot of things, but I think they probably only make fleece. That's how much I haven't seen any other items. It's a little crazy, isn't it? You might be tempted to say, "What about the spring/summer season? You want to say to yourself, "What about the spring/summer season?

-I'm not sure if it can be categorized as an outdoor brand in the first place.

As you can guess from its functionality, I don't think it is intended for use in outdoor fields. It is not for the serious, but for the city, or in Japan, it is similar to UNIQLO's fleece.

-I'm getting more and more curious, but what are the characteristics of the items themselves?

Characteristics...it's all about the pattern (laughs). (Laughs) It is very cool when worn by a black person, but I think it is a little too tight for Japanese people...well, in short, it is tacky. The point is, it's tacky. You can't wear it without an excuse, like "on the contrary" or something.UMBRO, which I introduced earlier.As with the "I'm not a good person," 90% of the time, it's lame. But every once in a while, something comes along that says, "Hey! This is cool, but it's just normal. (Laughs.) Like this one.

-I said I was curious, but this is a tree or a forest.

Yes, let's call it a forest pattern. Normally, I would have gone with a camouflage pattern, but instead, I went with a forest motif, which is a bit of a surprise (smiles). On the other hand, animal motifs are often found in Coco's home. Similar patterns are also common in similar brands, and if you go to a town in the countryside, you will often see old men wearing them.

-Even in Japan, elderly people wear strange patterns, and that is universal (laughs). But I think I have seen this kind of flirtation somewhere recently....

Have you noticed.... Actually, Americans in their 20s and 30s, including designers of so-called "street brands," have started using it as a sampling source for several years now. The first brand that comes to mind is Supreme, which we featured in our spin-off article. There, they were sampling things with realistic depictions of animals and realistic fur-like fur. Oh yes, things like this.

It fits with the recent trend, and if you told me it was the latest 2021 AW from some fashion brand, I would believe you, wouldn't I? The design is clearly different from that of outdoor brands, and it's just plain cool. Anyway, we only make fleece wear, so there are "only" so many variations that it would kill you. But, no, that's why there are also some last-minute mines... such as this one...

Perhaps, in this age of fashion voyages, this is the one piece of clothing that is necessary to navigate the vast ocean. As long as you have this, you can return to the harbor by relying on the light. Yes, this is like the log pause in One Piece.

-I'm not sure what it is, but I don't think I'm going to wear it with others by mistake.

Even I, as you can imagine, was saying, "This is just barely cool," but the next day I found myself thinking, "Maybe it's just barely out of the question. The most tacky design I have ever seen was a pink-based "realistic and cute white kitten" pattern. To be honest, I was absolutely stunned, but the joy of "finding" them is the real thrill of secondhand clothing. I think it is worth digging just to be able to revive such a feeling after a long time.

-If they can lift it that high, there will be more stores to buy it.

That's the point!
