What is the New Vintage anyway?
In the 1990s, the term "vintage" was used to describe vintage clothing that did not meet the definition of "antique," but still had value, as opposed to "antique" clothing that was 100 years old. Nowadays, there is a movement to find new value in "new vintage," even in old clothes from the 1980s onward, which used to be called "regular" vintage clothes. In this project, four vintage clothing stores with different styles propose new ways to enjoy vintage clothing. Each of them will talk about the charm of vintage clothing with their own sense of style.
Now in its fifth season, this Series has restarted with a new participating store. The 37th issue of this series is the second round of Bunya's "tempo.

Vol.37_Stussy's nylon pullover and shorts
-last time. was introduced to us by Stussy bottoms from the 90's to the 00's. This time?
Stussy" again, but this time with a slightly different perspective. Many of our readers may remember the sports mix style that was popular in the early 2000s. NIKE and other sports brands developed their own functional materials, and tech wear with high design quality that incorporated these materials became popular. One of the possible reasons for this was the FIFA World Cup held in Japan and Korea in 2002. At that time, many people were seen wearing soccer game shirts as street wear.
-Yes, that's right. Many street brands, such as Supreme, have been releasing these products.
Similarly, in the area of sportswear, basketball was also attracting attention as tank tops and sleeveless suits were popular at the time, and were often used for layering. The "Stussy Fitness" line was born amidst this atmosphere of the times.
-I think there was a line called "STUSSY SPORT," but is this the successor to that line?
. that was in the late 90's. Nylon light outerwear, set-ups, etc. . In contrast, I have the impression that KOCHIRA is a more subdivided version of the "sports" category, focusing more on athleticism than fashion. I think they were only available for a few years from the early 00's. .
-. I see. So, what items are you going to introduce this time?
The first is a nylon pullover, a so-called "piste" (a nylon garment worn to protect against the cold in soccer and other sports, and mainly made of nylon). . It has a strong sense of the atmosphere of those days when soccer and fashion were very close. The key point is the switch of mesh material from the bottom of the sleeves to the sides. The mesh material is used for ventilation to prevent heat from accumulating inside the item, and also serves as an accent to show a glimpse of the inner lining. . The material is a fairly thin ripstop nylon. The rubberized pith name also has the atmosphere of those days .
-Tech wear in this area has been getting a lot of attention recently, and it seems to be a seasonal item.
But the ...... chest pocket is just a pocket (lol) to make it look packable. . I think they added it as a design accent and to have some kind of storage for the lack of hand pockets. Well, it's perfect for this time of year when the weather has warmed up but there is still a temperature difference between day and night. It can be rolled up and tucked into a bag for a quick throw on, and is very useful. The balance between design and functionality is exquisite, and it is worthy of the "fitness" name.

-One more thing is the shorts.
This is the first time for me to deal with this too. . I'm guessing from the design that there will probably be a long version as well. The same nylon ripstop material with zips on both sides . There are velcro adjusters on the waist and hem, and I think they belong to easy pants in terms of design, but they look like warm-up pants as well. The logo design on the Velcro is also clever.
-The side zip is interesting, how far does this open?
It is a bit of a mystery. ...... opens and closes vertically, but the front and back are not separated. To be honest, I always thought it was supposed to open, but I just noticed it now (laughs). (Laughs.) Well, it is simply a design detail that says, "It opens, isn't that convenient? (Laughs). Well, I guess it was just a design detail to say, "It opens, isn't that convenient? No, it could be that it was designed for layering with leggings, which was quite popular at the time. ......

-. Recently, Y2K fashion has been gaining attention again, and I think this is a good fit from an atmospheric point of view.
I guess so. As I mentioned last time, in the 2000s, the range of design has expanded, and I feel that this is what makes Stussy's vintage clothing so interesting. You can still find items that make you say, "What's this? I remember this "Stussy Fitness" was treated as an in-line item at the time, so it should be pretty easy to find. There are many other lines that are no longer in existence, so if you take this opportunity to discover a new side of Stussy, I think you will enjoy vintage clothing even more.
