In the 1990s, the term "vintage" was used to describe vintage clothing that did not meet the definition of "antique," but was still valuable. Nowadays, there is a movement to find new value in "new vintage," even in old clothes from the 1980s onward, which were called "regular" at the time. In this project, four vintage clothing stores with different styles propose new ways to enjoy vintage clothing. Each of them will talk about the charm of vintage clothing with their own sense of style.

The 10th season, which started with the replacement of all the stores, is now in its second half!　The 77th edition is the second round of Yusuke Taki of "Dracaena". 2023 is the last year, so what new vintages will pop up!

-What are some of the new vintage items you would like to introduce to us?

This time, we have a track jacket made of adidas velour and pile. The unique switching design combined with a dowdy silhouette had earned it the nickname "dowdy jersey" until a decade ago (laugh). (Laughs.) It wasn't so until last year, but it is slowly gaining popularity, with some of our customers even looking for it. We have it displayed in the most conspicuous place in our house.

-What a nostalgic vibe, but dated?

Both are believed to be from the 80's. The countries of production that are talked about in vintage adidas vary, and I have the impression that they are generally made in Europe. These are both made in France, but sometimes you can find the same design but made in Tunisia.

-So, you are introducing this item again.

It's not that we didn't see the value in them, but rather, since we purchase in the U.S. and Canada, there were not many Euro-nori items like this in stock. The owner happened to be in France this time and succeeded in purchasing these items, so we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce them to you.

-You mentioned earlier that your items are basically American vintage clothing, but is there a difference in the interest of Euro vintage clothing?

Compared to the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) track jackets we usually carry, this adidas track jacket has a fresh feel to the fabric. It's kind of classic, isn't it? Pile doesn't seem to absorb sweat very well, and velour is soft and luxurious, but not very durable. So both are unsuitable for training wear from a practical standpoint (laughs).


-On the other hand, the switching is patterning to the body's movements, and I feel that it has both design and functionality.

That part is as you say. Another key point is the long neck ribbing. When closed to the top, it becomes a high neck, so I recommend layering it over traditional outerwear such as tailored jackets and long coats as a disguise. It has a strong presence and matches with everything, so it has established a position at our house similar to that of Champion's reverse weave.

-Is the situation the same at other stores in the same industry?


It is not clear whether they were originally stocked, but the number of stores that carry them has increased considerably over the past year, and awareness of the product seems to be spreading.

-By the way, what's the price?

With ATP, it is about ¥25,000-¥30,000, depending on the size. The price of ATP is about half the price of ¥15,000-¥17,000, so it is easy to buy. The number of ATPs continues to decrease, but this area is still available in a variety of sizes and colors, so it is a good place to start. By the way, the most popular coloring is navy base and blue, as shown in this issue. These sell out as soon as they come in. On the other hand, the red base is the favorite of the experts. There is even a common theory in the apparel industry as a whole, not just in the vintage clothing industry, that red is a hard sell. Although the difficulty level is high, it can produce a more classical atmosphere, so we think it is a viable option.

-What kind of people are you looking for?

It is overwhelmingly the younger generation. And then there are women. The ratio of men to women is about 50-50, and many of them say that they found out about us through social networking sites.

-I see. How would you wear this item, Mr. Taki?

I would match the bottoms with "Levi's" Staple or "Wrangler" Launcher. However, the silhouette is small, so your innerwear options are limited to T-shirts and long T-shirts. I think the silhouette would look better with the front zip closed all the way up. This is one of the top three best-selling knits of 2023, so we recommend securing it while you can.
